How to check traffic details?

How should I get traffic details from my site other thatn form awstats in my control panel.

Is ther any free tool with wich I can check my traffic details externaly.

there are many other stats analyzing software packages out there for offline use

myself I use angolizer offline
many features to configure

and finally every once in a while yoiu may have a human-eye look at the raw logfiles
or
you may search using grep ( zgrep for compressed files ) filtering particular log lines with particular keywords or strings you need - like for hacker intrusion detection for example and output the results in a text file for human eye-review

the colorful plain stats and data are fine for most cases
human controlled verification for all special needs
