Question about backlinks

i ve heard many times that backlinks are important for google ... but what s backlink really?
when i check in alexa , it says "2 sites linking" but when i check in google with " link:mywebsite.com" it doesnt show anything... when i search in google , there are many websites that s linking directly to me...
why google doesnt count those links?

in those websites linking to me, there s no "nofollow" tag or something ...
i just cant understnd this...
any help will be appreciated...

Goofle updates backlinks once 3 months or so

Plus google shows just 1% or so of the backlinks

Keap what you are doing and try on yahoo to see (iy shows like 90% of the backlinks)

To get the correct detail of google backlinks u have to check it with google webmasters tool

Google don't show any backlinks especially if your site is new....you can only see it after the google backlinks update...
