Hey guys,

So I have decided that for my consulting firm I need to get a website online... I do a lot of SEO / Web / IT consulting locally.. and want to get a site online to match my company.

I was thinking something CMS based so i can easily update.. What do you guys recommend for this?

For simplicity look into the Wordpress blogging platform. Although not a CMS by design, it does offer a lot of features comparable to a CMS and it's quite easy to extend and modify to your needs using plugins. That's my suggestion for a simple CMS-like platform.

You may also want to look into Mambo, Typo3 and Joomla!

Hey - another Aussie :)

I recommend Joomla! It's a great CMS and suits your purpose perfectly.

You can easily update the content too.

Wordpress is probably the easiest imo, but could be hard to rebuilt to anything else then a blog (I haven't tried).

I don't know how much Joomla themes cost though. A custom Wordpress theme could cost all from $70 - $300 (or cheaper/more expensive) depending on your needs and your choice of designer, hard to say rly :P

I also recommend Joomla. One reason is search engine friendly.

I've used both wordpress and joomla. AFter building two full sites with Joomla, I now have about five additional sites with wordpress. Wordpress may be "blogging" software, but it is fully functioning content management, you don't even have to use the blog features.

You'll be up and running your site tonight, there are thousands of free templates available, it's SE friendly. If you go with Joomla, the learning curve is steep, it will be days or weeks before you have a site you feel comfortable with as far as the structure of the database and posting new items goes.

Wordpress is my suggestion.

A good looking design or a professionally built template? There are a lot of free "good" templates for WordPress and Joomla. Check with this site-- oswd.org.

Joomla is the best CMS in my opinion.

Wordpress is simple and a little less powerful than joomla.
