I wonder if it can hurt the SEs rankings of my site if I put a link to it into my DP signature?

It's an automotive site and DP is a webmaster forum, so it can hurt my rankings, can't it? - I mean because the links would not be relevant. But I could get 1k+ of strong links, so I think this should help.

Anyone got your site (not webmaster / internet related) ranked well with your DP sig links?

I wouldn't this so because what if I was your competitor? Then I would just add your link to my signature to get you penalised...

You can very well add your link to your signature. It would be irrelevant; but it's no big deal. I don't think it hurts your search engine rankings. In fact, you could get a lot of exposure for your site by displaying it in your signature. People might be interested to check out your signature which would mean more traffic and more readership to you.

How established is the site ?

While signature links carry some weight, they aren't as strong as normal links that you could buy.

Traffic uhmm- not sure whether webmasters would be interested in automobiles- but then given the response to the '' what is your dream car '' type of threads, you could get a few interested people clicking on your signature.

Signature links are not consider as backlink by search engines because of "no-follow" attribute but they help a lot in terms of diverting traffic to your site and i think Signature links never hurt rankings of a site.

DP sig links are do-follow and I'm now talking about DP sig links.

Who said you that DP signature links are 'no-follow' It is 'do-follow' so check it yourself :)

As an automotive site you'll not get the CTR you would have gotten had it been a webmaster site/link...but it will not hurt, or at least my sigs have not seemed to have harmed my sites *shrug*

Normally, I get 30 hits a day from my links. Traffic is ok, and converts nicely.

As for the back links, they do count.

I don't care about traffic from DP for my automotive site (that wouldn't work). I'm just looking to improve the SERPs of the site putting a link to it into my DP signature. And I think, like most of you say, it works.

It's true that search engine takes only relevant links into account but it is also true that irrelevant links donot harm your ranking as well. so go on with this.

I would definitely put the link in...it can only get them spidering you faster...
