Domain Given as Gift...

I am curious to know... have any of you ever purchased a domain name to
GIVE away to someone as a gift ?? - - - for example: as a birthday gift,
holiday gift, graduation gift etc... - perhaps it was the NAME of the gift
recipient... etc...

??

I'm just curious...

and if you did - how did they react ??

It seems like it would be such a UNIQUE gift to give to somoeone...

I picked up a couple for my kids which are matched to their interests. One is used the other is waiting for the right time.

Never thought about a gift for JUST a domain name. I have offered to friends on how to make money on the web, and get them a domain name and hosting. But never though to say "hey, i bought you www.spamalot.com, hope you like it, bye!" =]

But then again, it really depends on the person. But being me, I would not want a domain for a gift or less it was a 3 letter .com, and then we can talk =]

eh........wouldn't impress me.

a) a person who isn't techy inclined won't know what to do with it. and will probably lose more money.

b) a person who does know enough to do something with it, knows that you could get it for about 2.99 somewhere :P

I recently gave a domain name to one of the member at my forum for posting good threads. But have never tried giving it as birthday gift.

Domain as a gift?? well for those people who are inclined and almost spent the whole day online and making money it is one of the best gifts but for other it is weird.

I've given away domains before. Some people who had an online interest, really appreciated them and others were like, "uh, yeah, em, that's er, nice". In other words, the domain was completely wasted on them. Pity (for them) since it was their name. Heh. Numpti's!

Some people thought it was really cool, other people just stared at me with a blank "WTF?" look...if they are a techy they, they will love it...Assuming they value the domain/niche as much as you.
