I have a domain that has a history in archive.com (dating back to 2001) but I registered it after it had dropped last year and I haven’t developed it yet because it’s not the best name I could have come up with. I’m wondering if it would be a good idea to renew it and develop instead of registering a new name, even though, the new name would probably be a slightly better fit for the website I have in mind. I guess my question is, can the age of this domain and the fact that it was once a well developed site help me in the serps?
Thanks,
Kimmy

Google loves older domains therefor if the name suits the sites theme then i would say go for it.

Chances are that an older domain will have links on other sites already. A new domain won't. This will help rankings.

You could always start the new domain and 404 the older one to it.

I'd go with the one I already have. Older, already indexed, links available... less work.

In google I think the older one will be better.
And viceversa in MSN. :D

That's true --- I'm sure he means 301 it ---- That would work....
