View Full Version : Self Validation - produces different and extreme results

I just added a new site to the network. I saw that the api key is now usable so I entered my key for the three sites I maintain. Just to see what the results would be, I clicked on the revalidate link and I was shocked to see the value drop by half. Needless to say, I was not very happy. I clicked again and the result returned was different yet again. I continued to click on this link until I got back most of my weight, but I had a net loss of about 7,000 points. Why does this function return such wild results? At this point, I highly recommend that no one use it less you wish to loose ranking in the coop.
on a different note, I forgot to create my last account under my 'parent' acct. Is there any way to get the referral credit to show on the parent account?
Thanks,
Michael

The referral credit is pointless because it's taken FROM the one you refer. No point in referring yourself, because you end up with the same weight.
The only thing that would cause a jump in your weight would be if you were running multiple ads on the main page, and then a variable number of ads on other pages. The system will take the lowest number of ads it finds in a spot check. For example, say you have 10 pages with 1 ad and everything else with 5 ads. If a spot check turns up one of the pages with only one ad, you get credit for the one ad (not 5).

Don't worry about it. The referral is subtracted from the new signup's weight. So, overall, it doesn't make a difference if you get a referral credit for yourself or not.

Ok, well at least I understand that part. As for the number of ads, all pages have five ads... So now I'm still confused.

Shawn, on the point of the referral credit I noticed the URL:
http://www.digitalpoint.com/tools/ad-network/?s=#### gets redirected to :
http://www.digitalpoint.com/tools/ad-network/
Is a cookie set in the process?

Same thing happened to me. Dropped from 40K-20K for some reason after making the .php file change, and then validating using the self validation method.

It looks like it's an issue when you switched to the updated ad_network.php file. You need to also flush your ad_network_ads.txt file to purge the old style ads. You have a mixture of old and new, and it's ignoring the old ones.

When I come to update my websites with the new code do I need to flush ad_network_ads.txt on each occassion?

Only this one time for the new ad_network.php file because it changed how the ad signatures work.

I cleared out the ad text file and after it reloaded, it's good to go. I'm back up to the place I was (almost) previously. Thanks Shawn
