Hello all,
Are there any disadvantages to making a domain Private vs Public? GoDaddy allows it and perhaps other registrars do as well. I understand the advantages already and just wanted to hear if there were any drawbacks to it..

Public means everyone can check you email address and illwill persons can spam you easily.

POSSIBLE disadvantages with google are discussed in their patent because they cannot check who owns a domain - however, not everything in the patent is currently being used.
A private registration decreases your chances of being accepted to DMOZ as an editor is supposed to check ownership of a domain for multiple listings etc - something that cannot be done with a proxy.
I personally use a proxy for many of my domains and can't say I have ever seen any sort of penalty in SERPS.

As always, your reply is *very* helpful.
Thanks!
p.s. I must spread the rep before greening you again
