Someone registered the singular version of my wife's business domain. Hers is redrockthreads.com, the other site is redrockthread.com. I realize now that I should have registered redrockthread.com as soon as the business started, but now, what do we do? Do we offer the other domain holder money, and how much, to relinquish the domain?

if you can live with your wife in one household
then you also should be able to live with one other person having same domain on one planet or is healthy competition that bad because it forces to be good ?

Do you get a lot of type-ins on the domain name?

Considering the other domain is currently parked, I wouldn't sweat it just yet.

It may never get developed, or it may be for something totally unrelated to your wife's business.

I suppose it wouldn't hurt to inquire about the price, but I wouldn't mention the fact you own the plural version...

I would not think you get much type in traffic. So, most of your business must come from links or advertising. If this is the case, then his domain would not pose a problem for you, unless they become direct competition. Even then, only the the content on your sites would seperate you, unless the domain has great keywords for you.

hmmm maybe whoever took it last november, did it with the single purpose to wait for your offer... maybe to speculate on it, knowing that someday you could knock at their door! I think many people do this (for example when people get typos domain names of big companies/brand, or addresses like www****.com just to get traffic and lawsuits) and when it happens, we just dont have to make them happy.
So i suggest you to let that singular domain right where it is now... forever parking. I dont think they will start anything similar to ur company, at least I hope they won't be so stupid to do that.

Don't worry about it. Check the Whois to see when the singular domain will expire and wait till it comes up for renewal, then wait for it to drop (come up for sale as an expired domain) , then try grabbing it then.

People buy domains all the time. I've got dozens. Some I buy simply because I think it's a cool name with a thought to developing or selling, depending on what happens first.

I guess I'll wait and see if I can grab it when it expires. I seriously doubt that the current owner will develop it. I'm just slightly worried about the small number of people who would type in the name wrong and think we're out of business.

I guess you have to try to put a value on that and then see about getting the domain.
