Link Building Services? Does anyone use them?

Hey there - We're just about to bring our SEO inhouse and whilst we'll be putting plenty of focus on content generation, link building & online PR, I wondered if it might be useful to use a linkbuilding service to do some of the leg work.

Does anyone have any experience with linkbuilding services? Have any advice? Or anyone they could recommend?

It sounds like you may or may not have much experience with in-house linkbuilding, and I generally recommend that people who are willing should try it out first, see if they can/want to do it, and only then outsource it. I think it's definately something we need to do in-house, but I've talked to a few SEO agencies in the UK who say they do the high PR stuff in house but outsource the backup work.

Needless to say, they weren't going to tell me which link-building services they used lol.

To put it in perspective - our main site only shows 1200 backlinks in yahoo site explorer whilst our main competitor shows over 18000 - i'm guessing there's a bit of work to do before we start ranking!

Do it yourself mate. These link building services, like SEO companies, only use the strategy and tools already out there. They don't offer anything unique.
They exist for those that don't have the time to investigate and learn the methods themselves. Perhaps you don't have the time, and you do have the money to spend, in which case use a (reputable) one.

I have and do still currently. The level of service you get is "fair". I think the more detailed you get, the better you'll be. The more you describe exactly what you want out of a link, the more likely you'll have success.

The best results I have had is when I have trained the person personally for exactly what I want, and what I expect. But, if you don't have the experience yourself, it doesn't really matter as you won't be able to properly show them. The thing is, by the time you get to 10,000+ links most people don't have a clue how to get there. But, generally you're not going to do it doing the same old BS people talk about here. Sending 10,000 emails for link exchanges, etc. You'll have to start getting into buying links(which today is decidedly unprofitable), or you'll have to generate the links yourself.
