No I am not trying to sell an ebook
;-)
Among other things I have a small website development business and made a CMS website for a customer. Due to them being popular in their niche industry, they have PR6 - I put on the footer a link to my web design company with the anchor text 'website design' - So the link is showing up in 50+ indexed pages on their site
So with only 2 other incoming links (both PR2) My little website design site is an instant PR5 after being up only a few months
just thought I would share.

google no longer values these kind of links so much, they preffer links in a contextual way, not isolated footer links

PR is still valuable, i dropped a rank and lost 20% of my income off one of my sites.

congrats! And I still believe that footer links (as well as PR) make sense. Don't be to quick with "this is cool and this is useless talks" ;)

I am not actually sure how long it took - I had the site up for a few months before i put in the links on the customers page. I never really visit my own site since it is more or less a static billboard - so it could have been anywhere from a few days to a month for the pagerank to pass. I just noticed it today actually
Now I am trying to figure out a way to get this to pass to some of my other sites (though I dont think my client would be too happy if I put *THOSE LINKS* in the footer. ;-)

PR is to be important and as a marker for site's quality, traffic and so on... but I do know some sites and they have pr4 and no significant traffic and so on... I just want to say that PR is useful but it is not an indicator anymore

Nice job ;) Although PR isn't that important nowadays, you got 50 one way links which is GREAT ;)

When was the last time you searched for a keyword and the first result was a pagerank of 0?
Chr1ssst0pher
Nov 30th 2007, 2:19 pm
114211 -- you are talking about natural search... but it really depends on keyword and even keyword phrase consisting of 2-3-4 words... and there is no difference then in pr4 and pr5...
nobitu -- one way link they have links to your site on their site and you have no links to them on your site
But I'm still convinced that linkbuilding must be followed with traffic increase

I agree with the general opinion here. PR is not as important as it used to be but it still helps a lot. You just have to know the right way to monetize your high PRanked sites.

Check if pr is important - type "website design" in google and tell us what position your PR5 site is

I agree, PR is googles stamp of quality and realivents but not a guaranteed traffic generator. A PR3 site specializing in a Particular niche can generate more traffic than a PR5 site especially if there are less sites promoting the same niche.

i think PR is gud measurement to know how much traffic go to the website. But, its not indicator to know that we have traffic that all targeted. May be its more refering on ROI.
for my own case study, i built my blog for several month with doing some monetizing and seo method, then my site indicate PR1.5 and almost 2. But after I recheck with the traffic, it's not the targeted traffic as i wish. Most of the link like 'spamming' my blog.
That's my own opinion actually.

If you produce and share a free wordpress or joomla template you'll have tons of backlink...especially if the template is adsense ready

I've also heard that Google is de-emphasizing these internal links.
I just hope they penalize a site or sandbox it for that practice.

I've seen a lot of posts on the Google webmaster help forums from those who create html templates, css templates, wordpress templates etc who have put their link on the template. Those templates were then used by either porn sites or other bad neighbourhoods, and bye-bye to the pagerank, and thus, goodbye traffic. PageRank does matter. Our site went from PR1 to PR3 and sales went up by 200%. Seems to prove my point, anyway.

In case you didnt get the ideea .. he was trying to say that your website got PR5 for nothing ... and you will get better rank in google search engine..and many facilities .. when others try for months..maybe years to get a lousy PR ...
Not saying you have a fault..just demonstrating by yourself PR is not realy so important !

Thats exactly the point I was trying to make with the original post.
My design site got PR5 for nothing. For making a single CMS site.
If I linked it with not such a competitive keyword it would probably be way up there in the rankings as well. But also have to be consideriate about the customer.

PR is not as important as it used to be right? But to boost PR, you need to get links. Am I right?
All those that brush off PR as 'unimportant', I'm interested, do you view link building in the same manner?
As far as I can tell, maybe Google doesn't give as much weight to PR as such, but a good PR is a healthy indication of how well your site is coming along. Just look at the sites with a high PR, you will find them ranking well for their targetted keywords.

That's very interesting. I am tempted to go off and install links on ProfessionalProfiles which is still unranked by Google. iWebtools prediticed pr5.

I dont tend to look at PR in terms to boost my own PR, I look at PR as a measuring tool to how long a website has been in the SERP's, meaning that if a website has high PR then they either have a network of high PR sites that they have interlinked on different IP's, or they have pushed their sites link campaign. True, high PR sites generally (but not always) have more backlinks, meaning maybe higher link relevancy, leading to a boost in the rankings for your site if you can obtain a link from them.
I see content linking as more important than PR. I wouldn't link say a football site on a toys site as the two are a mis-match. Anchor text with related keywords on the linking pages content I see as far more important, such as review sites, articles, blogs, etc.
For instance, if your selling widgets blue and you have a choice between getting a link from a widgets blue website page, or a widgets red page? Which would you choose if you wanted to rank for 'widgets blue'? The ones with both keywords on of course :)
PR only tells me that the site has been established in the SERP's for at least 3 months, but that wouldn't persuade me to obtain a link from them. Some webmasters are PR junkies, getting links from irrelivent high PR sites to boost their own PR, and in turn sell links from they're sites because there are more PR junkies out there willing to buy them.
But would that boost your site in the SERP's? Thats the myth... PR is highly debated as to whether or not it counts towards ranking a website. Personally, I think it has very little count, but I don't think it passes nothing at all over unless Google are playing the old 'let confuse the hell out of all SEO-ers as we always do' game by keeping the damn rank on the toolbar, which has been ongoing for quite some time.
Soembody said who has a PR0 website at number 1 for their given keyword? I'm at number 2 with one of my newer sites (2 months old), does that count? They are made with generic domain names. It missed the last PR update but it may only go up 1 rank the next time, if any at all, but I'm still confident that my ranking will persist for some time, and may even rank 1st place when I am not expecting it. I've also got another website for 12 months and done no SEO whatsoever, and it is still on the first page on Google UK and .com for a host of keyphrases.
Overall, its pretty pointless arguing (or discussing) if PR passes any relevancy over, because unless you work for Google, we ain't never going to know.
