Hi AdWords folks,
I usually spend all my time on the Adsense forum, but I had a question for you guys, that I have been wondering about.

How much less do you bid on the content network, than you bid on the Search Network?

In some cases, I know that it is 100%, for those who do NOT bid on the Content Network, at all. But I am looking for an "average" number, just for comparison.

If you bid $1.00 on the Search Network, how much do you bid on the Content Network?
1. Zero - I don't bid on the content network
2. 1 to 20 cents
3. 21 to 40 cents
4. 41 to 60 cents
5. 61 to 80 cents
6. 81 to 99 cents

Thank you all for your replies.

it depends on the product, some content network sites have great ROI.

I know that the ROI on some websites is good, like mine. Ha-ha.
But some AdWords buyers don't think so.

I picked $1.00 just so that the replies translate directly into percentage.
So, if you all could give an answer based on $1.00, that would be very helpful.
Even though your actual bids may be much lower.

Gotta go now. Back in a few hours.

Anybody else?
I thought for sure I would see a greater response than this.
Oh, well. Maybe in the morning.

With one result in, it looks like "less than 1/5" is the answer. So far.

Maybe I asked the wrong question.
Should I have said, "1/2, 1/3, 1/4, 1/5 or 1/6"?

yeah, I base my content bids on percentages...

It really does depend. IF I want a real fast start on the content, I'll leave the bid the same as search and then lower it once traffic starts flowing. If I want a slow cheap start, I'll go 50% lower.

Ahh. Another couple of votes. Decidedly different from the first votes.
That makes it interesting.

And then "it depends" is always around, because it does, as was stated. Different objective, different bids.
Still, I would like to try to get a kind of general idea, as in, a little less?, or a lot less?, etc.

Where's the option for more?

Honestly what I bid on the search network has no relation to what I bid on the content network.

At the end of the day it's all about roi and each network is different.

"Where's the option for more?"
Good point. I forgot the option.

I erred in not thinking that some would pay more for the content network than the search network. Since the talk always seems to be about clicks on the content network being worth less.

Posters! : Tell us if you pay MORE for space on the content network.

I tend to go with bids of between 60% and 80% of my search bids but I will often create entirely separate campaigns and adgroups for the content network as you will find ads with good CTRs on the search network have rubbish CTRs on the content network.

So I think about what sites my ad is likely to be placed on given the keywords I select and then write a few ads solely thinking about the kind of visitors those sites get. Remember: there is no need for keyword insertion in these ads.

This question makes no sense at all.

It's not a case of "if I bid $1 on search, I reduce it 53% for my content network bids"

The two are totally different and it's not wise to utilize this "one size fits all" strategy.

As has been stated, it depends on ROI and PROFIT from each individual campaign.

Cheers

Stewart

I think its important to mention here that how you bid depends on what you are advertising. What works for my niche is likely nowhere near the model used by many others in different niches. Maybe you could skew this poll to something a little more specific, like adverts for services or a consumable. Might give the data a little more meaning.

Site exclusion, when needed.

Some "MFA's" and myspace profiles actually convert very well. That's why should always test everything yourself instead of blindly believing forums and blogs:)

That's interesting, did they publish that somewhere?

Can you please provide us with your source?
From where did you get these numbers?

Thanks for sharing, :)
