dns problem

Hi all,


I've got people saying my site is unavailable, whilst it is for me. If they type in the site IP address they get through - just not with the domain name. At the same time the domain name works for me.

I guess i'm loosing traffic. What causes this, and is there anything I can do

What is your domain name? Have you changed you nameservers or DNS file recently? It sounds like some information has propagated to you but not other people, or vice versa.

no, this is a domain that has been up and running for years. Whatsmore the problem is intermittent. At some times the site can be found, other times it can only be found through its IP address. Whats more other sites using the same DNS servers have the same problem. When he can find one of my sites he can find them all. When one is down, all are down

Contact your ISP or whoever is hosting the DNS servers that point to your site. I suspect they already are aware of the problem but it doesn't hurt to make sure.
