Good Morning Everyone

I have been "reading up" a little on how to get backlinks (one way preferably rather than reciprocal) but could I ask the forum some questions.

1.If I approach a website who is providing a backlink to one of my competitors who are on page 1 of Google to ask them if I can also link to them why would they agree to this i.e.what is in it for them?

2.How should I word my request to link to them?

3.How and where do they actually put the backlink on their website? (when responding to this bear in mind I have very little SEO experience!!!)

Thank You

Alan Hope

Alan,

you inspired me to write an article on that topic:

How to approach a top-ranking site for backlinks (http://www.letspromoteit.com/2007/11/26/how-to-approach-a-top-ranking-site-for-backlinks/)

It is a direct answer to your question, so I think you'll like it.

Thanks for the inspiration ;)

Why not? This is example of one my requests:

"Hello!
Guys, we are the owners of widestep.com and are interested in exchanging links
in a triangular way with you. We are interested in swapping PR3-PR5 links from homepages or link pages,
as you wish. Please, let me know how we can proceed. Thanks"

And why should this be appealing to me if I am a webmaster for a very high ranking quality site? For our software pages, I always immediately delete these types of requests...

While I agree it is the quickest way, I think it is not the best way. Especially now that Google is so much going after them...

I'm pretty sure you worded that question wrong because you can link to whoever you like and the positive effect for them is obvious.

rofl... where did I have my mind... Of course I meant them linking to me. Thanks for alerting me, I now fix it!

and another rofl.. I thought that was related to my article ... sounded like one of these things I *really* like to mess up with. Well, this time not me ;) Still good to spot this. But I, too, suspect that Alan meant a link from them to him ;)

I use the site in my signature to get related backlinks.. You can set it up to give you only targeted links.. It has worked pretty well for me so far..

This seems a bit dangerous with Google's policies (AND actions) against unnatural traffic. Its very close to bought links...

Just my 2cts...
