Hey,

Just as the title states, what is your view on .EU domains and do you think they are/will be in the same stage with .COM's?

If you had a choice, would you either signup for a .COM domain with a hyphen or would you rather signup for a .EU domain with no hyphen?

I am looking for some straight forward answers, and looking for some advice ;)

Regards,
Meti

.eu is usually percepted as only for europe. But .com is more global.

So your choice would also be the COM with the hyphen?

definetely. i'd choose 6 letter .com rather than 4 letter .eu too. .eu is not a great domain... they're really expensive from what i've seen too, and i'd better buy domains for countries from eu like .co.uk, .it, .de, .fr ... if i'm planning to do something for europe.

EU pricing are at 11$ not expensive, budget is not a issue. I am looking for some good advice, what about the hyphen?

.COM is definitely KING of the TLD's.

I for one, would not use a hyphenated domain. I would come up with a better .COM domain. I would not use .EU at all. If I had to choose a different TLD outside of the USA, then it would be .CO.UK. Other TLD's are not as popular. If I were in the USA, I would choose .NET, .BIZ, and .ORG as secondary TLD choices.

I would actually come up with a very good .COM domain name, and make certain noone has registered .NET, .ORG, and .BIZ in addition to the .COM domain. I would register all of those domains. If budget permitted I would also go after .TV and .CO.UK.

I would only use the hyphenated name if it combined two very, very popular keywords. That alone could drive a lot of traffic to the site.

Hello jjpmarketing,

Actually the hyphenated domain combines a quite popular word with the "forums" part after the hyphen, so what's your view? I'll also have a look if I can combine that word with other words related to forums.

.eu will never be like .com, you've also gotta live in the EU countries to be able to register them.

I would definately prefer a hyphenated .com over a .eu anyday

I like in a EU country. I believe EU domains will turn out quite successful in the future, as they are relatively new to the market they may not be as popular as other TLD's.

I believe that .asia domain extension will have huge success as a continental domain, I'm not sure .eu will ever gain the same glory, if nothing else the combination of letters 'eu' doesn't seem to sound good as '.com', plus Germans will always love their .de extension, Spaniards .es, Sweds .se etc. making .eu an alternative not the main-stream.

.eu will probably equate for europe what .net is for the usa.
