In what sectors does Yahoo dominates or performs better in terms of search results?

They dominate in users i do not think the dominate any search results. Users include email and other things they offer. That is why they have more users than google but less searches.

Judging by my search stats, Google could bend Yahoo over its knee and spank them till Yahoo cried uncle.
I like Yahoo, but I just wish they would offer some more competition.

Simplicity is so often overlooked. Google's basic format appeals to many users.
Search results are ranked differently though compared with Yahoo and other search engines.

I think it only differs on your location. Some countries that Yahoo beat Google in terms of user but still Google is the leading SE of all SE's.

One way to know that is the traffic most (not all) people get from Google is way higher in number then Yahoo!
G got the higher number of people using for search (about 60%+).

Hi,
As what I know, Yahoo search result combines both bots crawl and human edited SERP. While Google relies on bots crawl only.

Not true now -- they have just penalized about 12 of my directories.....they are doing a lot to catch paid links.

My target audience for networking equipment is 80% visitors from google, 10% yahoo, 10% msn/live.
This is for 100% of organic vistors.
I personally like live.com's layout. Their results aren't that bad either. I live live better than yahoo that's for sure for search.
Google still owns search with myself and practically the whole world.

Google has Picasa and Gtalk...
Actually Google crawls website much faster than Yahoo and has much bigger database than any other search engine. I know, Yahoo has much refined searches but Google is king here.

That's like comparing apples and pears. Yahoo is a news portal. Their search engine is a secondary part of it. Google is a search engine.

To be honest, Yahoo! is good in a number of sectors but they lack more people using their search feature. I use Yahoo!'s e-mail service but nothing else. But to be honest, Gmail is much better than Yahoo! in the long run. At the moment, however Yahoo! are providing unlimited e-mail space lol!

yes google gives me way more visitors than yahoo so therefore I asume that google has more traffic because I rank higher in yahoo than google.
In terms of using these search engines I don't use either but google seems a little more aimed at money making and yahoo a little better with customer support

Definitely Google is over Yahoo...
But in my opinion google's SERPs are scrap as compared to Yahoo and MSN....
Yahoo and MSN have better duplicate filter and Spam filter......
But still i like Google..b..coz google provides me the higher traffic...

Yahoo's bot is just a lot lazier than Googlebot. Google seems to cache the whole web three times over in the time it takes yahoo to crawl just a quarter of that. Google is more dynamic and thus more appealing for search.

Ha, loved that response because that is true. But as far as Google and Yahoo goes. Google for search - but I may have to toggle back and forth because Yahoo sometimes are more defined. Google overall for searches and webmaster related tools. Yahoo overall is great for email and business and News/Entertainment/Stock info related..
If people want to do a comparison search than there is GahooYoogle - www.gahooyoogle.com/

I think google wins here. In terms on how many people search on Google (64%):
Google received 64% searches on October (http://www.googlelady.com/582/google-received-64-percent-searches-october/) and it seems that competition is far away and other search engines need to improve in search results and their indexing time.

OK my two cents worth....I think both searches are good but favor different results. My sites have traditionally done better in yahoo but I now am doing well in Google also. I find that Google tends to favor the "big boys" who cover lots of territory (larger information categories) but don't have as much specific content to that which was searched for. While Yahoo is quicker to give the site with more specific content the rankings.

Google is always going to be my top pick for searching, because it's obvious they return the top results. However, I prefer Yahoo for news, interesting articles, etc. as well as Yahoo Answers, Yahoo Groups, and Yahoo email. I love Google for so many other things though, mainly all the free services they provide - Google Webmasters, Google Earth, etc. Overall, Google leads.

It is not easy to rank well in Yahoo and terms of search results I think they give organic results for the site.
