and this is not true also. Edus are the same as infos. Their values are very high only because such domains are usually highly trusted sites. If some university had info domain it would be of the same value.

But that would never happen.
Also
US - .edu
UK - ac.uk

There is one small difference but I doubt it effect search engines. If the title of the page is the same as the domain name it might be sorted differently depending on the domain. For example:
GetAFreelancer.com or GetAFreelancer dot com
would be above:
GetAFreelancer.info or GetAFreelancer dot info
Besides this people who don't remember a domain completely normally tries the dot com alternative first.

Yes, I always try .com first then if to no avail then I google search.

One more thing came to my mind. If the domain contain a keyword it might also effect the rankings. For example if you search for:
programmer .net
It seems to me that the .net domain would be above the .com domain if everything else was the same.

Nopes! domain extension doesnt matter. Its upto you how well you promote your website.

personally I like .info domains if they are simple. I think currently they are underpriced. For example I don't understand why similar .org domains are more preferable than .info
For example cars.info - definitely says that there will be all possible information about cars and you will be offered to purchase cars. But cars.org - it can be any organization but definitely not selling cars. So .org names are not good for commercial sites while infos are good. IMHO

.infos are for information sites and are therefore suitable but for a commerical site, no.

The main reason is that most spam sites are in .info. But on the other hand, it really depends on how well you market the site. ;)

I've heard the "all TLD's rank the same" argument many times, yet I've never seen a .info ever get #1 SERP, or even anywhere near it.

I would say there is a slight difference a lot of idiots search for domain names followed by the .com ltd looks more professional the only ones that get preferential treatment is .edu .ac.uk (uk universities) and and type of .gov

they create dot info because dot com is already congested with lots of name and this limit choice thats why they introduce dot info, this bring more options to webmasters, why they cheap? because this tlds is new and to bring more opportunity to register more than dot com.

For SEs it should not be an issue. However for market it might be becuase it weight the .com domain higher than that of the .info because of the demand-supply gap.

I know some people don't agree but my dot coms always get indexed faster than my .info's in general and more pages as well. But this is only initially and the dot info's do usually get indexed the same eventually. I would prefer this is not the case as I have a lot more .info's than .com's but from my experience this is what happens.

Thats because everyone aiming high in the results run for the most professional and rememberable choice (.com) and there is no point in being greedy for couple of extra bucks.
