Pardon my ignorance, but when I see a "free push" listed with some domain sales what does that mean? Doesn't it cost a fee to transfer ownership of a domain? I guess I don't understand how some folks do that when they sell a site for peanuts, but as I said before I'm ignorant about this matter.

Thanks. How does that work, though? Is that only possible with certain registrars? Do you have to have the same registrar?

Free Push only works if you are transferring ownership of a domain name from one owner to another without changing domain name registrar. It is sort of an internal transfer.

Most domain name registrar offers free push but they may termed it differently and have different methods of doing it.

If you are moving from one registrar to another than that is a Transfer and usually you need to pay for an additional year of registration when you do so and it can take several days to a week to complete.
