View Full Version : DMOZ update?

How often does dmoz update its main directory?
I submitted a site to dmoz a few weeks ago and the editor quickly included it in its category area on Nov 15/04.
I was impressed and appreciative of how fast the editor reviewed the site and included it.
When I go to the specific category, I can see the site listed but when I search dmoz results from www.dmoz.org I get the dreaded "No Open Directory Project results found" message :(
I assume that is because the directory has not been refreshed since sometime prior to Nov 15/04?

The search has been broken for months, at least it was broken in June when I last investigated the issue. I'm guessing it still is unfixed.
Congrats on getting you site in - I'm still waiting 9 plus months on one.
It's related to the http://dmoz.org/Computers/Software/Accounting/Billing/ if any moderators who take of http://dmoz.org/Computers/Software/Accounting/ are interested... :)

Thanks for the info Pen.
My experience with site time submission until inclusion has usually been the same as yours ie months. That's why I was really impressed with the fast working editor on this last submission.

The fasted I've ever experienced was 24-36 hours from I submited the site to the editor visited and icluded it...
But that was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, I've been waiting months/years for some other sites... :(

One site that I run was listed within about 3 days.
The editor liked the site a lot so gave it a little shove in the que (It was a busy directory).
That was about 8 or 9 months ago.

Been weeks since I tried the first time. I tried again last week and still nothing. I think someone is asleep there.

Dont feel bad - its been probably 8 months since I submitted my Lincolns of Distinction (www.lincolnsofdistinction.com) site to dmoz catagory http://dmoz.org/Recreation/Autos/Makes_and_Models/Lincoln/
Ive resubmitted once or twice. Still nothing.
DMOZ is very slow.

>I've resubmitted once or twice.
That may be one reason it hasn't been listed yet. When you resubmit, it goes to the back of the queue.

I just resubmitted it recently - and there is no editor for my catagory

DMOZ is very slow.
DMOZ adds ~2000 sites a day. No other diectory comes remotely close to that - how is that slow?
I just resubmitted it recently
Bad move. Resubmissions just over write the previous submission with the most recent date and move you to the back of the queue, if editors review sites by date (most do).
and there is no editor for my catagory
Every category has >200 editors.

Every section has >200 editors, many categories (Main>Sub>Sub2) don't have one so they are obviously looked at less frequently.

If I submitted a site to DMOZ once in one place, and another time somewhere else, is there any way to have them cancel one of the submissions?

You could ask at resource-zone, but answer will most likely be no.

My understanding is:
a) you may not be accepted if you submit twice.
b) if you have to switch, when you "add url" to the new category, give the category yopu submitted to last time, make sure to explain that you have already submitted, and why it was necessary to change (i.e. content of the site has changed).

Not true - 20 times, maybe
