Can anyone tell me what link would be better to purchase for the purpose of ranking higher in the search engines?
A directory link that has a PR4, or a blog link with a PR4?
Lets assume that the outgoing links on that page are the same number.

Hello !
If the blog has the same niche that you have then definitely the blog is better (anchor text)

The link inside of the blog content would be better than the directory. Assuming the content is about your niche.

article links will be better. you can buy article links 2 ways, one in-content link where your link gets placed within existing article keyword. or yuo can write article with your own acnhot text and then can publish. these kind of links work better as they are related to your site content and gets more weight from SE

If you compare link from directory and link form blog, anchor text in blog will help much. becouse in these days directory is down.

Blog links are better since blogs are supposed to have a unique rich content.
Directories come second in weight.
I wouldn't say the same about article directories, since articles are all the same around the internet having duplicate content which I suppose decreases their links value

I can not honestly say that I've found an article site or a directory when looking up information on Google.
I've clicked through external links on WIKI
I've Followed sigs and forum links
I've read blogs and have followed the blogroll
But again, I've not once found myself looking at an article submitted to an article site.
Maybe it's the things I look for, maybe it's just my luck, maybe it's because those are not really the greatest of resources... I'm not sure how they figure into SERP, but if it is supposed to be a NATURAL thing, and I'm not naturally finding such links, what do you think their worth is?
That said, I've submitted to several dozen directories, and have had a few articles hosted.

Main point is you should not buy links solely for the purpose of PR. If you are thinking of SEO I would suggest content links. If the page has PR that is an cool but, more importantly you should check the relevency of the content and the traffic you can get.

Which ever is more related to your target area will help you in SERP. Moreover directories are not treated well by Google, these days, I too would prefer Blog links.
