I wonder if anyone of you was successful in getting .edu backlink(s) for your site? I would be glad to see a proof of how .edu backlink helped you to kick off your competitors in your site's SERPs.

Also, I wonder what kind of .edu backlink should I get? What about a PR4 .edu blog posts? Are those good?

I can give you a free PR2 .edu blog post.

It will also be listed in two PR1 categories.

Four .edu backlinks, one PR2, two PR1, for free! Just pm me the article.

I'm sure people have, otherwise we wouldn't be talking about them. However, they're not a sure thing by any means.

A great many people think the benefit that's seen from .edu links is simply that many of the pages with this TLD are seen as authority sources of information, not because of the TLD, but because of the school they represent and the links they've attracted.

i think it used to be important before but not anymore. most of the EDU links are from the student pages on thier own blogs or forums. how those backlinks can be of more value than any other links?

I agree, i think the emphasis is being slowly taken off incoming links from obvious sources.

Yes, most of the backlinks that you can easily get would be from students or administrators that link to your page because it contains something they want to share.

One of the search terms that people use for my site i was like in 3rd but now im on page 2 and its a whole page of .edu spam links and when i click on the links then it says sorry page not found.. i dont see how they did that but its definatly somehting to .edu links cause they completely knocked me off page 1 with that.. and i dont wana report anyone but i might have too its so many..

here is one of them for example... http://sfdm.ucf.edu/heritagealliance/duvalcarrie/_notes/.1/amateur_sex_chat.html

here is the cache of it.. http://cc.msnscache.com/cache.aspx?q=72280939383174&mkt=en-US&lang=en-US&w=cd5ff23f&FORM=CVRE3 im not putting my site here or teh search term but its 2 pages full of edu links.. like this..messing me up.. id love to know how they do that and all of them are different links.. from different universitys but with .edu extentions..

now thats purly spam or what.. and the page dont even show its just tons of them in the search results enough to knock me back to page 2 :( check it out go to msn search and put in that url and then click on the cached page and itll redirect you to another page ..

I can't track down any SERPs effect, pro or con, from .edu links.

But I do get some modest, steady traffic from a .edu link I have from an Ivy League university.

...SE's give more consideration to edu links.

I'm hoping that's true, and it is the "conventional wisdom". However, I've never seen any written or experimental proof. Anyone know of any such proof?

EDU/GOV link has no special value. Algorithm isn't based on domain extension, but on the link quality.

Even Matt Cutts said somewhere, There's no special edu/gov boost.

I got 100s of edu links and not really any noticeable gain. One is a sitewide on an edu library and that one alone is a few hundred pages.

Also have some Gov's and same deal, no big change.

I have a theory about this whole thing that im testing, will have to wait and see. ;)

There seems to be some level of respect that is factored into a site that has EDU links.

Having said that - the way any algo is designed - it is designed to weigh certain factors and that could easily be something like applying as an example .000083 for an EDU link versus .000072 for a non EDU link.

SEOMoz has a tool http://www.seomoz.org/page-strength for evealuating Page Strenght.... and the analysis includes the number of EDU links.... so they count for something... Just not really known to what degree.
