We know traffic from SERP and PR are two different things. To get better PR we need good number of backlinks. Does backlinks play any role on getting traffic?

If you get good backlinks it helps serp results also. Pr some people say is popularity and content or keywords of site do not even matter. If you get good links with keywords for site SERP will be good and so will traffic.

it all depends where the backlink is placed and how much traffic the site you are getting linked from gets.
ex: if the link is in the footer you probably won't get much traffic. but if you get the webmaster to place your link on the left side or right side your chances of getting traffic improves.
also it matters if your site is somehow related to the site you are getting the links from.

The more visibility your site has the better the chance that someone will visit, that's pretty obvious.

I saw on another thread at DP, somebody saying backlinks aren't necessary for traffic.

its not true it helps 2 ways users of those sites can find your site so you get traffic that way plus it helps with having more backlinks for search engines. They help but are not required

In recently PR update they didn't base for Backlinks... but in your question. i believe. if you have quality backlinks so therefore you get good number of traffic. and if you have a huge quality backlinks definitely ofcourse a chance in SERP. so therefore you get also traffic. This is just in my opinion.

backlinks help if you want/need search engine traffic. Or you can go the route of banners and ads that produce traffic but they tend to be more expenisve over the long-term. It really comes down to ROI and most base their link building and traffic building choices on that.

I spent thousands of dollars before buying text links, banner ads etc. Right now I spend 0. From experience learning different things I get better results with SEO, building links etc. Every 15 days I get about 100+ increase on my daily uniques just doing that.
Got really confused from the other thread.

I believe PR has to do with how much "link juice" your site has to give away to sites that you link to. Simalr, but not the same as where you show up in SERPs.

Of course this advice is coming from a link broker, so there's a very large conflict of interest. From jg123's other posts and activity here you can see he's quite dishonest and not one to take advice from, if you wish to succeed.

Alexander the Great my 252 positve iTrader speaks for itself.
Your post is also irrelevant to this thread. The topic is backlinks, not how they are obtained and as such will be seen as harassement/spam. I am reporting you.

Backlinks play important role in traffic if your inbound backlinks are targeted and this also help to improve PR.

There are three ways somebody can get to your site: type the url into the address bar, go into their bookmarks because they already love your site, or click a link somewhere. That last one tends to be the most common ... especially for first time visitors. ;)
A lot of links out there exist only for SERPs, never to be clicked on by a human visitor. But ideally you want less than half of your traffic to come from search engines, so that algorithm shakeups don't hurt so much. High traffic sites in your niche are ideal, but then a lot of links from a lot of lesser traffic blogs is probably better.

They generally go hand in hand.
Lots of links = lots of serps = lots of traffic.
