I'm thinking that Yahoo is the best paid directory. It's $299 per year. I will almost certainly pay for this registration.

Any thoughts for or against?

Thanx,

Google also recommends getting listed on Yahoo Directory. They see it as "Sites revised by authority people".
I bought it for a site of mine. In last 9 months I had about 50 visits thats all. As per traffic its no good. As a backlink it does have some good value.
Business.com is another good directory you can get listed.

A honest suggestion. If I were you, I would rather use that money for getting listed on Business.com. I think its about 200 dollars.

You will not recieve traffic from that but definately a good backlink.

It's difficult to judge the value of a Yahoo directory listing. I'm sure it brings in negligible businesss just like all directories. Who goes to a directory to find something? Do you? I just search in Yahoo or Google. Their search has gotten so good that if you can't quickly find what you're looking for, you're not trying.

So Yahoo says they might not list my site for $299 and then they'll keep the money anyway? Pl-ease!! Would we put up with that from anyone else?

If you originally have very good content, you'll get listed for free if you apply, but you can get reject even if you pay $299?? I don't know why anyone would pay??? Although it does bring in a good amount of links.

I would think about paying the $299 if someone would prove to me it would be worth it...

We don't have to prove anything to you my friend. We already are telling our experience with it.

I definitely won't pay $299 just to get listed there. Never really counted on Yahoo to receive visitors to my projects actually...

Why is it the best paid directory? Have you managed to snatch up any keywords on the search engines by being listed on yahoo's directory?

They certainly are. But they are also one of the most expensive out there.

Why is it the best paid directory?

It's one of longest established and biggest directories out there. As a previous poster noted, even Google recommends that you add your website!

I got grandfathered in years ago. I was thinking of adding my new site to the Yahoo Directory. But it has the same PR as Business.com and the later is $100 bucks less. I suppose that I will go with the later unless you can think of a contradiction in wisdom.

You can save your money and get listed in Business.com but when it comes to authoritive value Yahoo Directory is Best . They might not consider you if you do not have good or original content then the money is wasted

It certainly is a good one...A link from the Yahoo directory is considered pretty high quality and could be worth the $299 per year if you feel your site will generate sales based on the improved rank. But see Google and Yahoo does not have a relationship. Google picks up from DMOZ.org or the Open Directory Project and not from Yahoo Directory
See: google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=35264&query=DMOZ&topic=&type=

For example, if your webpage does not have a meta description tag, which Google uses in its snippet for the search engine, then it picks up from DMOZ...
