I am just starting today to built links for my website. Can anyone give me some information on how to get started?

2. Avoid certain paid links that Google frowns upon.
3. Avoid link exchanges.
4. Submit links manually to directories.
5. Avoid spam sites.
6. Go after static links that can be indexed by Google, rather than redirects and no follows.
7. Go for links that are relevant to your niche.

Avoid Link Exchanges not related to your sites theme and content

First create a useful interesting website that other sites will naturally will link to it. Submit your site to major directories like dmoz,yahoo, google etc. Create a blog and get listed in blog directories.
