Upgrading from 1.3 to 2.2 - major performance hit...

Hi Guys.

I asked my host to upgrade from 1.3 to 2.2. Mainly in order to use mod_deflate - which I thought will make my site run faster (smaller downloads).

However the performance was really hit - I see my pages now taking 0.3 seconds to finish, it was 0.1 before (I'm talking about the server side - the amount of time it takes PHP to finish preparing the page).

Any ideas what can it be? Should I go back to 1.3?

I have seen benchmarks which concur with your findings. It is recommended to stick with 1.3 unless you really have to move on! Moreover, give lighttpd a try. It is faster and light on resources!!

It was actually a bug of our own, in the PHP code. The apache is not to blame...

Yeah that sounds about right from everything I've read Apache 2.2 performance increases pretty much across the board.

So I'm glad you figured out the problem
