Does anyone know where to acquire an updated zip code db for free? I would like to write a prog in PHP for a zip code radius search but I dont want to pay for the DB...

I searched for a while a few months back. Ended up buying one with all of the zips, cities, counties and stuff for the radius searches for like $20. I did see something on sourceforge that may have included a zip code file if I remember correctly.

I could probably handle $20. Where did you get yours? Also is it MySQL or another format?

Thanks in advance.

I don't remember to be honest. I just tried to find it...probably have it on another machine, but I don't have access to it since it died after my XP service pack 2 install.

Anyway, just found this, which may help you out. http://spatialnews.geocomm.com/newsletter/2000/jan/zipcodes.html

I've been trying to figure something like this out to for my real estate website. I think you can create a db from information found at the US census though. Here is a link: http://www.census.gov/Press-Release/www/2003/SF4.html
