Craziness, if Alexa's number 1 website, Yahoo, is PR9, what makes a PR10? Oh, right, Google.

Adobe makes a pr10. I've never really understood why, I mean it's an important site, but its a company and I don't think google is involved with it. Not everyone links to it so I dunno!

Milions of people use Google. And I quote one of the most used answers: "Ask our friend Google (http://www.Google.com)"
(= backlink)
So why PR8?

There are many sites, such as ibm.com they were @10 however on #9.
Not sure why this happenned. most of us are penalised for purchasing links however why IBM has been penalised for a rank... its something i think called monopoly and abusing normal people.

Oct 29th 2007, 3:42 pm
Yes, Google start to force a lot of things with their monopoly but soon I think it will play them a bad joke.

Thats possible... the URL is different for both of that site... and also the backlinks for Microsoft U.S is much higher than that for U.K.. if we put microsoft.com then it points to MS US and not US... maybe thats the reason....

Yahoo was PR 9 before the last update. It was 10 some time before that a few years ago.I think Google hand picks this one. There is no way they don't have everything it takes to get a 10 in the algo.

Google has 3x as many backlinks as Yahoo so wouldn't you expect different PR? There is no corruption in PR, it's an algorithm...

I think Google is lowering the bar for low pr sites 1-3, and upping it for medium and high pr sites 4-10.

a lot of people link to the adobe flash player, especially on flash websites, which creates thousands of natural links coming to their site from high PR as well as low PR sites, which explains PR 10 :p

That is exactly why their PR is high, because of the Adobe PDF Reader and the Adobe Flash Player. Any site that requires flash creates a link to their site for the download. Any site that has a PDF puts a link to the site to download Adobe Reader. There are millions of sites that do this. Can you even imagine how much traffic that generates daily? I wonder how much bandwidth they use per day?

Google has just scale down the Page Rank. That's it. WIth every update more and more sites were getting high page ranks of PR6 and PR7 due to the presence of heavy interlinking (natural or artificial) so they said, fine..lets scale it down and let them grow again.
I can't see sites like yahoo having PR10 or 9 or 8 having any significance whatsoever.

Yahoo has no. 1 on Alexa because all services of yahoo have the same main domain yahoo.com but not same in the case of Google, each country has a different domain like Turkey google.com.tr, google.de, google.co.in So international traffic is not considered.
