My weight dropped from 67,500 to 72 to zero
I am running 5 ads on every single page of my website
The number of pages in google's index is increasing every day
Is it possible I have done something else which could have caused this?

Would help if you give your URL. :)

It looks like you may be subject to Google's recent spam/duplicate content filters...

http://www.google.com/search?q=site:www.askshop.co.uk&num=100

Anything that is just the URL with no description or is "Supplemental" in the process of being dropped from the index. Querying for the site via the API yields only 2 actual pages that Google shows in the index.

Is this confirmed by Google as there was some thought (some time ago) that those entries indicated that Googlebot had been unable to access the pages in the most recent crawl?

I don't really doubt that this is the case as I saw one directory go this way then disappear altogether from the index.

I don't know for sure what's going on, but I've seen it happening to multiple unrelated sites in the last few weeks. The only thing they all share as far as I can tell is they generally have lots of duplicate content and could be considered search engine spam.

sean,
what command are you using here with the API? if you look at "supplemental results" for many sites you will still see index pages with description.

Just the normal site: function.

Not that it would make the API work any differently, but I'm curious if you have an example of a non-spam/duplicate content site with an index as Supplemental?

do you mean the site's index page (ie index.html) being in supplemental results?

Yeah... as far as I know, supplemental simply means Google has not spidered the page in 3+ (or so) months.

shawn,
I must have misunderstood what you meant by index then. no, I have no example of site with the index(.html..) site being in supplemental results. any that do, as you pointed out, are being kicked for dupe/spam.... correct indeed. my bad. :)
