If it's in a non-business category, you will have an option for free inclusion when you try to add the site.

how strict is the control of the sites for the paid inclusion?
example:
even if you are not the smartest guy in town you can understand that my site a way to promote affiliate products. should i try anyway or will i just trash the non refundable fee?

I submitted one of my sites for free just a few days ago. It depends upon what category you are looking at.

Old thread, yes, but still relevant. Any directory owners out there with experience around how likely a paid, bidding or free directory is to be accepted by Yahoo Directory?

from the directory admin panel:
* Sites submitted after December 28, 2001 are subject to an annual fee. Renewals are automatically charged to your credit card unless you cancel at least 5 business days prior to renewal date.
