View Full Version : Expiring Domain @ Moniker

Looking for some insight on grabbing a domain being held hostage by Moniker. This domain is set to expire in a few days. Their marketplace has it listed... but under the "Min Offer Price" column it is marked as "N/A Request Price".

I was also checking this same domain last year and my strategy at that time was to wait for it to expire and then hope I could grab it. Well it never did expire... they renewed it... which is what I sort of expect again.

This domain is a .COM TLD and would complement the other 2 matching TLDs I own and which have an Alexa rank of about 25,000... and I am not too sure what this .COM is really worth with this venture or if it is really worth it at this point.

I really do not have the budget to justify $70 for a domain (let alone the possible hundreds $$$ they may try to get if I were to ask)... So do I try to backorder with them ( or someone else ) or just see what their asking price is ? Or maybe you think I should mortgage my "arm and leg" and do what it takes ?

thanks,

Then what makes you think Moniker's holding that domain name hostage?

Anyway, paragraph 2 of the link below is your answer:

Unfortunately if you can't afford the minimum price, your chances of possibly
acquiring it through other means are very, very slim.

*sigh* Just as I thought... they are not letting this one go... Looks like they have renewed this domain for another year (3 days before expiration). The whois is now showing an expiration of Oct 25, 2008.

Guess all I can do is just ask them.

Nope... it didn't expire. The registrar (Moniker) already had it.

It is only a domain... which has been showing a parked page for years now.

The domain has been held by Moniker for at least the past couple years. I would guess the domain was originally registered and then dropped, after which they grabbed it.... and they are now keeping it for them self in the hopes of making a profit.

This is the same thing they did last year.
