View Full Version : Would you use the paid option?

Hi, if directory X is selling links for $10 and also a free option. The paid links won't get ranked any higher, but with the paid option you will be able to suggest a title, and suggest a description, whereas the free option the admin will choose the title and the description.
Would anyone use the paid option, or is it a waste to have it?

Well, it all depends on how popular it is, if it is really popular, you will want to pay for the extra benefits, so you can properly name and add a description and you should get more visitors.

It depends. Many directories offer a paid option for a faster review. I would check the quality of other listed sites to see if its worth paying, and to see if its worth them writing it for me.

If the review time doesnt differ, perhaps its not worth it.
Also, as a directory owner you should be editing listings to make them more unique.

My guess it the paid option would be used less than .5% of the time. Even when sites offer free regular listings and paid featured listings for say $10 the paid listing is used very infrequently maybe 5% of the submissions or less.

Yes the review time is better for paid, and yes the listings are edited, hence why i said "suggest a description"

Yeah, i read that. So i will pay $10 to submit description that gets changed anyway?

A free & paid directory is always tough...few will pay.

hmm i went through this case quiet a few times ... only on big directories i went ahead and paid the extra fee for featured to get those benefits ...

but it didn't have free option it was like regular get official title ... and featured get anchor ... and i went with featured to get my anchor...

but if i had free option most probably i would be happy with a free link :)

pay $10 , then have your listing swamped by 100 subsequent free listings, ending up on page 10 for my $10

probably choose the free option

Who said anything about this being like a normal directory?
There aren't 10 pages of listings :D

if you're accepting mostly free listings, you soon would have full categories

I may pay if it has a good PR..and that would be mainly to get approved quicker and to have my link higher in the list..the thing about free submissions is no guaranteed approval

I'm not sure you'll find many interested in paying for the privilege of "suggesting" a title or description.

What do you mean?
I assume you mean that you will stop using paid links?

PM coming your way

For those wanting to sort free from paid in the listings, below is an example ( will need to test in one of your systems. but if the system sorts alpha numeric you simply pace a alternate option in front of the piad description ( in thes case - ) then in the example under the toys catagory if there were two paid entries and two free entries ( those with out the line ) once sorted in your directory it would look like the bottom sample

not exactly what we are doing but will produce the same result ( any mark could be used ( i'm guessing ) but will need testing ( * ^ $ ! . and so on )

CATEGORY TOYS

DATA ENTRY

MY BLUE TOY COMPANY
- MY GREEN TOY COMPANY
MY RED TOY COMPANY
- MY PURPLE TOY COMPANY

SORTED ALPHA NUMERIC

- MY GREEN TOY COMPANY
- MY PURPLE TOY COMPANY
MY BLUE TOY COMPANY

there is another point that you are missing! the free directories have a tendency to delete the free listings! with the paid option, atleast you are sure that your listings will stay!;)

Sometimes they go belly up and we are seeig a lot more of that but on the whole the free directories I have submitted to still list my sites and we are going back three odd years. The question we have to ask at this point is which directories are going to fall now that no ones buying PR? Next are the link farms that have been set up to sell back links and the question is whether Google believes that they need to be taken out or not. That leaves us with a very very small pool of genine directories to choose from

But if anyones interested check out the beauty in my signature. No paid links to date. You could be the first. :D

Hi

Well you can go for paid option if free listing is not passing the page rank to your website and if paid listing is on Page that has good Google page rank so you can get benifit of page rank and has choice of title and description.

Thanks

What benefit are you getting from PR? When did Google last update?

$10 is a bit too much, but I'll rather pay to choose my own title

only if the page that my listed on would have a good rank or is a strong directory.

I am running into too many directories these days with no pr and no alexa ranking charing $30 for a featured link and $15 just to be listed!
