Are you guys still experiencing major benefits from having links from directories?
I have noticed that with my websites these have become less important than before. I would appreciate your feedback.

There are still good for newer sites, in fact, I'd say they still help just about any site if the link is permanent. I don't like having to pay again for a link a year later. But to each his own.

I’ve recently launched a medical directory. All I did was submit to some directories, and bought maybe 2 monthly homepage links. I’m getting about 50unique per day after a few weeks. Not bad as traffic is rising steadily on the daily.

Last week I listed a friends website in my directories. Within a few days his site was ranking 1st for this keywords. It's an uncompetitive local market, but directory listings still give SEO benefit.

i just got on the frontpage of google for a local keyword phrase by submission to directories alone over past 3-4 months.... so yeah, i believe that there play a major part in SERPs. ;)

Until search engines take links out of their algo you will continue to get benifit from directory links, blog links and any other kind of link for that matter. If you are only looking to get links to climb google then you should not be online with a website as they are just 1 among thousands of other search engines used on a daily basis.
The sooner that webmasters and site owners get this through their head the better off their sites and businesses will be.

1 among thousands of other search engines
But they do have over 75% of the search engine market so IMO it is very difficult to make it 'big' without google traffic. On my sites that get a decent amount of search engine traffic, google send 10x the others combined.

well i think google is not giving more importance to directory links rather than from web sites.Even if you have got links froma high pr directory. i have seen it many a times.it does not affect your page rank too much as i have a site with about 15 links all more than 3 pr yet it has no page rank.
