Mod rewrite question

Hello,

I am wondering if it is possible to use mod rewrite to replace characters such as replacing a space (" ") in a URL with something such as an "_".

If anyone has any help on this, it would be appreciated.

Never seen it.. did a search but couldn't find anything about it. would require str_replace or similiar, but.. doubt you can run that in a .htaccess file... but.. not quite sure, will check it out. got curious my self :)
