I've just been asked how I will be able to track an XML feed to see how many people are downloading it from one of our websites, however, outside of Google analytics goal tracking, is there another way of doing this?

Couldn't you just look in the server logs for the number of requests of that particular file/URL? If you're using Apache then you would have to assume that something like AWStats would pick it up, right?

Doesn't feedburner do this?

Feedburner does. And then you're also using their resources rather than your own so you have less overhead to worry about.

But does Feedburner do any XML feed, or just the RSS ones? I know that that is probably what the OP is after, but he doesn't really specify :(

Thanks guys,

Basically, they've got a lot of content which they want to syndicate via their RSS feeds, but it would be nice to try and track it.

I will forward details of feedburner to them and take it from there.

But I really appreciate your feedback.

Si

If anyone knows any more about tracking RSS - drop me a pm and I will be able to let you know the url I am taking about.

I'm pretty sure Feedburner does any kind of feed. Let us know what they say!
