View Full Version : Weight decline - calculation changed?

Patient
Nov 10th 2004, 6:25 am
The weight of one of my sites has declined markedly (PR not changed and pages indexed not changed).

By my estimate it should be roughly 2x the current weight.

Has something changed with the calculation?

same here, the weight of one of my sites was around 40,000 then dropped to around 13,000 now dropped again to 1,368 (the number of pages in google index has actually increased!)

My weight recently increased dramatically, so I don't know.

no change at all for me. so there you have it - the full spectrum of change possibilities - up, down, no change. for those that went down, maybe it was just a glitch in google reporting at the time the update was done. my guess is that it will return to normal.

Mine went down a little but I expected that since I removed about 10 pages from the site. Other then what was expected everything normal here.

Nothing has changed with the weighting calculations in the last update.

If your weight went down a lot, the only thing I can think of is maybe you are running multiple ads, but not all pages have the same number of ads running. For example if you run 5 ads on some pages, but 1 ad on others, and it happens to spot check a page with 1 ad, you get credit for the lower number of ads.

I am running 5 ads on all pages so that can't be the reason.

Presumably though if one of the spot check pages fails to run for any reason (eg host is down for a few minutes) then a page would be credited with no ads and reduce the weighting?

Is the google page check a simple:

site:www.mysite.com

or something more?

If it was down and had no ads, the account would be suspended and you would get an email letting you know which page it was.

The way it picks a random page is a little more complex than a raw site: function. What's your URL? I'll force a recheck and see if it changes.

Can you check thexden.org? It went down to 0, not sure why.

Not sure either, but a validation moved it up.

I have also had an increase of pages indexed by google yet my weight has gone down. I have the same number of ads on all pages. Is it possible to get a recheck on my site in my sig.

the same here: weight dropped from over 4000 to 22. PR and indexed pages didn't change.
