View Full Version : How Can Reputation Be Earned Here On DP

I have been looking at people asking for rep points here on DP or ending up getting their account banned due to negative reputation. Just thought of coming up with a list of Do's and Dont's, on how to get increasingly reputed, and share with everybody, especially the people who are new here and don't know much about DP.
1. Exhibit your creative and good ideas here on DP. This would motivate other members to give you positive rep.
2. Try to help people with their queries or issues, here on DP. If you are able to help somebody they normally return favor by adding you rep. I have personally experienced that people give you rep even without asking them to do so.
3. Don't spam or put any message that would disturb the decorum of the forum.
4. Be fair in your dealings with other members here on DP. Fair dealing would help you to get your reputation increased.
5. Think twice before posting a message in some category / part of this forum. Make yourself sure that you are posting at the right place. This would ensure that you don't get any negative rep here.
6. Try to make friends with people here on DP. Never try to engage into an argument or quarrel here with other members of the forum. This would not only prevent people from giving you negative rep but also helps you to get positive rep.
Other members are welcome to update here if I am missing a point here.

The thread starter, dishing out reputation advice, only has one green blob himself = 1 blob member.

Don't ask for rep.
Don't break AdSense ToS.
Don't red rep too much, it removes from your own.

Yes, but we don't encourage giving freebies solely for rep. It devalues the rep system and all the high rep members.

treat people the way you want to be treated. help them so that they help you in return. It is a two way process of learning and improving our skills.

I think staying out of Politics & Religion would also be good advice (which I rarely follow). That place is a war zone.

Thanks for the compliments Country Boy:) And i think with the support and inspiration of great members like you having multiple blobs the newer members can learn many things and grow. Afterall the members here make anyone have good reputation isn't it.. and you might have got this great reputation by supporting others only, i guess..:)

Here's a little Rep 101 on how to get green and not get red, from a pro that's done almost every thing wrong, and look where he's at!!
1. When you get red, DON'T SAY ANYTHING ABOUT IT!!! Unless you want more!!!
2. Don't make a post about making big bucks when you're doing fraud. We can find out about it, fast. You'll be in da red before you can say the word fraud!!
3. Is there a topic you know a lot about? When every some one has a question in that area, help them. Some times you might get a green. Just don't help people only to get da green! A lot of newbies for example don't even know about the rep stuff, and newbies need I think 50 rep points before they can even give out rep! As a bonus you'll generate more threads that have signature back-links to your site, generateing some visitors and leting search engines find you!
4. If you see a thread about some one who's doing fraud, join in and fame them, bash them, cream them, crucify them...you get the idea!!! Some one who does fraud is never right. Every one will agree with you except the person who did the fraud, or is on the side of the fraud freak!! Of course you might end up with an infraction!!!
5. Like to have fun and just chat?? Live down here in the Off Topic boards. Have fun, make people laugh, just don't try to be a wacko, or you'll be knocked down to red. Only ONE person has ever became a wacko and lived to tell the tail and be in the green!
6. Don't post nasty images, lots of ahem... bouncing smilies, (http://www.vgchat.com/images/smilies/bounce3.gif), 1337 talk, anything that would drive normal humans insane, unless you are the official wacko that knows how to do it right....and get green for it!!!
7. Try not to talk politics!!!! People on your side will give you green, the other side will give you red! Come election day, vote for the Wacko for President!! (Say that, and you'll be bombed with red!)
8. Don't *bump* threads!!!
9. Post like you got English, spelling, grammar....skills. Unless you're the wacko and have learned the da, iz, pze, waz...language!
Do all that, and you'll be bombed with green, like this...
http://www.vgchat.com/rep-expose-google.jpg
Right now I got 3,581 point(s) total!!
ending up getting their account banned due to negative reputation.
Um, geting red doesn't get you banned!!! As IamRed, er IamNed!!!!

Wtf, giving rep doesnt decrease your rep, unless it is negative rep - in case of which you really shouldnd care about 1-

Yeah, I did stroll into P&R once, came out with 20 odd + rep, plenty of red, and a bad mood :p

Let me add one more rep-gaining action: be a directory owner and/or directory sig-link advertiser on DP. The majority of high-green-blob DPers own or advertise directories. There's something about that that's beyond my analytical skills. :)

I've noticed this too. It helps if you offer free submissions for a while and advertise them in the Directory section on DP. It's like a rep magnet ;)

It's a bit like Christmas. It's better to give than to receive. If you give without expecting anything back, you're bound to get something in return.

What I find Most Interesting is , NO ONE mentions the
Reputation FAQ (http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=173583)
Hope that helps op :)

My opinion:
Its a public forum. Some peoples try to find a solution for their problem, some peoples have experience to solve that problems.
So, in few words, "be useful" and "be nice".
Its more important than own web directories. I cant be more useful offering solutions if i have my own signature four links!

good and true post..
i just have to add. that i personally get bothered by those 2 - 3 letter responses that seem their just trying to add number of postings..
so what i'm saying is quality posting is very important.
