View Full Version : Hostel - The Movie

I just watched the movie - and wow.

If you thought Texas Chainsaw was horrific and gorry - this deffinently one (or 10) ups it. I'm a huge horror movie fan and this one actually had me squirming around in my seat.

This brought an interesting topic to my attention - I've never believed the BS about movies/video games causing kids or people to become violent, etc. But these kind of movies bring a whole new meaning to the "R" rating. I can actually imagine a young person being traumatized by this movie.

I feel the "R" rating is being used incorrectly - action movies and dramas with nudey scenes... these share the same rating as a movie like Devils Rejects or Saw... I think they need 2 seperate ratings for this.

if this is so gory than shouldn't it be NC17  I am not much sure about US's rating system.

i saw a bit of it at the toronto film festival screening, before the council cut out scenes. i left, (i had no idea what the movie was :P)

SVZ I can't imagine the "cut" scenes being any worse than what was actually shown!

And I don't know about some of you - but these super gory movies aren't really scaring anyone. they're more or less just grosing you out with how disgusting and disturbed they are.

I'm not trying to make horrors sound bad - because I'm a big fan of them.

I think you're right on that one yo-yo. You can't equate cutting off somebody's head to a couple having sex or someone saying F*CK. They're just not the same. I think violence should be separated (ratings wise) from sex and "bad" words.

hostel is good?

I saw devils' rejects the other day, even though it has some corny parts, there are parts in that movie that are pretty intense

Yeh I really liked devil's rejects - hostel is good if your up for some extremely gory scenes and lots of hot european boobies.

There's a new one coming out where it takes place in the nevada desert and deformed people are all crazy from the atom-bombs that were tested there. It looks pretty good too I forget the name of it though.

I'm not really into gore movies that much. Was there a sophisticated plot or was it just a bunch of people dying in bloody ways?

The best horror movie I've seen recently is Saw. I like that one because the killer is a genius, and makes people kill themselves.

people dying. but the first half is full of fake titties

Theres a basic plot I wouldn't really call it sophisticated, but Quinton did put his name on it ;) .

Oh my god, Hostel was easily one of the worst "horror" movies I've seen in a long time.

I've grown up on horror movies since I was a kid, believe it or not -- and that was sorely disappointing. I've seen it three times now, and each time I watched it made me realize it was never going to get better.

I thoroughly enjoyed Devils Rejects and the Saw movies,(in a cool, "Oh wow I can't believe they made this movie" kind of way, not an "I'm psychotic, shoot me now" kind of way, mind you) because they actually had a developed storyline which wasn't strictly devoted to blood and gore.

Hostel was weak. LAME, I say. Lame.

They couldn't even spell the title right. Its not hostel, its hostile! Someone get those producers a spell checker. Geesh.

Yes I know that hostel is a word too (that's the joke!)

You must not have seen cabin fever or wolf creek.

Which part disapointed you, the gory scenes or the euro-boobs?

I thoroughly enjoyed Devils Rejects and the Saw movies
Saw II was lame. They pretty much ruined what could have been the best new horror series... devils rejects rocked :D

I said ONE of the worst horror movies of all time, Yo-Yo ;)

Which part disapointed you, the gory scenes or the euro-boobs?

Neither. I mentioned earlier that the storyline was very, very weak. I'm the type of person who enjoys a good story to go along with the blood and guts (and euro-boobs, if necessary), and I failed to see that with Hostel.

May I ask why you feel Saw II was lame?!

Did you ever see "cube"?

lorien1973
Aug 4th 2006, 9:02 am
was cube the one where they were trapped in all those white rooms that interconnected? I've always caught parts of it on sci-fi, but never saw the end :(

Yes, that was the one. I saw it. It was... weird.

the worst one I have seen recently was "hills have eyes" what a pile of crap

I haven't seen hostel, but didn't it get filmed in Amsterdam?

DeniseJ
Aug 4th 2006, 9:28 am
I haven't seen that yet, but I thought it looked pretty lame. When a Stranger Calls was pretty bad, too. I mean come on, you can only remake old classic horror films so many times before they just start to get pathetic.

yeah cabin fever, and wrong turn total junk , didn't see wolf creek

I liked silent hill, the remake of dawn of the dead was pretty good too

Good horror flicks are pretty rare, but they are probably my favorite type of movie, the best ever I think might be the Shining

I said ONE of the worst horror movies of all time, Yo-Yo ;)
I wouldn't say it was close to the best... but considering how many horrible horror movies there are.. I don't consider it close to the worst ;)

Neither. I mentioned earlier that the storyline was very, very weak.
Yeh... the plot wasn't really all that great.

May I ask why you feel Saw II was lame?!
The actors sucked, the new "traps" weren't really all that great, and the special effects weren't up to par. Over all it just didn't compare at all to the first one.. it was a big disapointment.

DeniseJ
Aug 4th 2006, 12:13 pm
Alright, perhaps it wasn't one of the worst horror movies ever... but it was pretty bad. Hmm, I think I have to disagree with you about Saw II though... except for the actors, a few of them weren't that great like you said.

Yes B O O B I E S ! ! ! always raises a movie's stars at least 1, 1 1/2 if they are nice boobies (or lots of boobies).

*The next hostel should just have naked women like they did in the first. No speaking,... just walking, bathing, naked women.
