Why are people so obsessed with page rank on this forum. I don't get it, what can page rank possibly tell you that you can't get in better detail. Want more links check out google webmaster tools and see the incoming links there. Even better see what individual pages are linking to what and how to spread you incoming links evenly around your site.
Who cares what the number says, its really not important, unless some one can give me a credible reason why this is not the case.

Ha ha oh my.. I didn't even think that it would affect how much people could sell links for...
I'm surprised there are so many buyers with google trying to track down on people with paid links.

It's helpful when you want to sell links on your site and for advertising purpose. while it's related to you ranking and you optimization work but it not the only factor out there.

This might be part of the reason — "Pages that Google believes are important pages receive a higher PageRank and are more likely to appear at the top of the search results" (http://www.google.com/corporate/tech.html).

Not likely to happen, but hypothetically if it did, it would probably devastate the directory industry. Most of us would just keep trying to build quality websites with lots of pages of helpful, user-popular, well-SEO'd content.

Some websites like web directories depend on PR for business. Many SEO enthusiasts use PR to gauge their efforts. PR is not everything as it can be easily manipulated. If you're not in business of selling links or other SEO services, PR is not very important.
