Have any members specifically done link building for a new website using only links from free hosted blogs such as blogspot.com and wordpress.com blogs?

What were the effectiveness of these links with regard to SEO?

I know they would help to some degree, I am trying to establish how powerful they are.

if u gonna create blogs yourself they will be new blogs having no pr, and links from them wont help much, but if u have friends who has good pr blogs that may help a lot.

Makes no difference whether or not the blog itself is freehosted. PR is what's important.

Hmmm not so sure about that. Think unique C-class IP addresses.

Yes, why not.
All links from high PR Blogspot or WordPRess blogs are really useful.

i dont think those links will be effective because search engines will check the ip of the backlinks.

I was looking at some various wordpress and blogger blogs and they all have the same c class IP. There would have to be an exception (as cafe dude said) because people can still get alot of links by spamming blogger accounts (mass creating them and posting links).

I mean there are a fe wprograms that can make something like 100 blogger blogs a minute.... perfect for the blakhat professional :P
