View Full Version : Youtube videos ranking really well in Google?

I have noticed recently, that for many keywords, there's one or two youtube videos on the first page of search results. What do you need to do for your videos to appear in Google? Anybody tried it?

I suppose you need to:

1)Get the video url crawled by linking to it from an existing site
2)Have the Keywords in the video title
3)Maybe the popularity of the video is important too. Since Google owns Youtube, maybe they give the views/comments on the video some weight. But that's just speculation.

So, anybody experimented with that? I'd be very interested in hearing what you want to share. :)

Yes, that's because Google love YouTube, Amazon, Wiki, etc.

I have seen some of those videos of by you tube that ranks. If you tube is owned by google, probably they just help those videos in a way.

this is why my niche video site is now dead. I had top SERPs for several categories, but not anymore - since everyone clicks the youtube video above where my site used to be. It's a disgrace.

who can really compete with google or youtube, none of us thats for sure. Unless we come out with something truly brilliant :D which is ofcourse in the realm of possibility.

It's their own company why they don't rank it well

Its only because youtube videos are linked from millions of blogs. Look at the backlinks for the video that is ranking. Google is not playing with index manually. If you don't believe look at what comes up for "search engine". Won't you expect Google to be first but its not even on 1st page!! So its always the b-a-c-k-l-i-n-k-s if you want to rank high enough.

google have direct access to youtube and amazon's database. maybe that's the reason.

Many of Google's own products don't rank all that well, for YouTube to rank high, it has something to do with the "authority" factor. YouTube is the best video site out there, with tons of backlinks, and is considered one of the authority video sites if not THE one. Similar to Amazon in shopping, and Wiki in information (lots of people think this is debatable).

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a video (since it consists of numerous frames of pictures, should be worth millions. I don't see any problem for a video ranking well on Google, especially since Google bought Youtube. I'm sure Google factors several variables into its video ranking algorithm, e.g. popularity, # views, #links, etc.

Its mostly because of Google Universal.

they are rolling out a new way of presenting results, including image/video/news etc all on the main page. if there is a Google / Youtube video relevant to the search term then it will be displayed just like a normal result. yes, the videos can be SEO'ed ;)

woot first post!

I have a couple of clients with videos on you-tube which are on the front page of a few of their keywords.

Just one problem, the link goes to you-tube and not my client's site. While they are happy to have their video viewed it is not doing them any good on their site or in terms of PR or SERPs.

lets face it google know how to manipulate there own algorithm better than anybody else, if they purchase something for billions of $$ and they could increase both popularity and visability why wouldnt they do this?

if a video is relevant to the searched keyphrase and its clicked on, chances are they will watch the video on youtube and providing its well made, either click on to your website from the youtube channel or at least view your youtube profile page which should be as seo'ed and as well written as your main website.

Ever since the announcement of google universal we've been making quality videos for youtube, now it provides us with some amazing traffic, not to mention the linkbacks to our profile page and youtube videos on other peoples blogs and websites.

oops forgot to mention..

universal is still being rolled out across the google network, this will take a long time, the absolute best thing you can do is get some videos made and get them into the system before your competitive key phrases catch on and do the same, it seems google is giving priority to the established videos over the newer ones in its search results, a video with 1000 views and 8 comments thats been in the system for 4 months now is ranking a lot higher than a similar video thats only got 500 views and been in the system for 2 months.
