View Full Version : A nice way to find out when you get back-links and Google indexes your pages

To do this go to:
http://www.google.com/alerts

Fill in the form like this, for back-links:
Type 'link:www.yourdomain.com' (Without quotes) in the 'Search term' field
Change 'Type' to 'Web'
Change 'How often' to 'as-it-happens'
And write your email address in the 'Your email' field

Google will send you an email with a confirmation link, click that link and you are all set, you will get emails when ever Google updates your back-links. (Internally they update every day though)

If you want to get emails when ever Google indexes a page on your website, go to:
http://www.google.com/alerts

Type 'site:www.yourdomain.com' (Without quotes) in the 'Search term' field
Fill all the other fields as above and you are all set.

I know many of you know this but I thought it might help someone:)

Also if you want to get an email when someone writes about you:

Go to:
http://www.google.com/alerts

Fill in the form like this:
Type "www.yourdomain.com" (with double quotes) in the 'Search term' field
Change 'Type' to 'Comprehensive' <-- Only for these ones; for back-links and indexed pages be sure to choose 'Web'
Change 'How often' to 'as-it-happens'
And write your email address in the 'Your email' field

Now make another alert like this:
Type "Exact Title of Your Website" (with double quotes) in the 'Search term' field
Change 'Type' to 'Comprehensive'
Change 'How often' to 'as-it-happens'
And write your email address in the 'Your email' field

And you are all set:)

It would be even nicer if Google actually showed you more than a tiny fraction of your backlinks

Hey guys, Google showing me only 7 backlinks in the same time Yahoo more than 2200.

Will this tool show only these 7 links?

This tool will send you an email (almost instantly) for example when that 7 increases to 8 or so.

I have been using google alerts for some time now for my blog. Its really a cool thing and would show me whenever somebody links to my blog or whenever my page is indexed with google.

I've known about this for a good few months now and it's very handy. More handy than what you could ever think it would be. Don't tell no one, I'm not sure if it's already been mentioned, but keep it a secret. "you could not only use it to keep an eye on your websites backlinks, but you can also keep an eye on your competitors. ssssshhhhhh
