Hi..i have two questions.

1.
suppose a site is listed in wikipedia in a very high traffic popular article, as a reference (not an external link).

how much should you pay for a link on such a website?

2. how much should one pay to get listed as a reference in Wikipedia

For SEO / link development? Nothing. The links are nofollow'd. Buy it for other reasons but don't factor a wikipedia link for SEO into your price.

wikipedia is using nofollow on their links.

because of this, links from wiki will NOT effect your seo

I think it depends on the niche, number of outgoing links, etc.
It would be difficult the estimate the value without actually know the URLs.

actually, wikipedia DOES affect your SEO in the following way:

1. wikipedia is scraped and duplicated by many other sitse that may include a follow link to your site

2. wikipedia referencs make your site an authority site, thereby resulting in one way links from other sites to your sites

3. wikipedia gives a hell of a lot of traffic to your site

4. google sees your site as of a higher authority since its a reference now. this improves your ranking on SERPs for most of your keywords

The first three are true, and may have an effect, if the article in question is popular enough. Point 4 is only true, if someone actually does copy your link, since links from Wikipedia itself are not followed.

when I was listed on Wikipedia (before some jackass editor removed all of my links, which were there for well over half a year), I was getting hits from about 5 other huge wiki sites that were scraping Wikipedia. It almost rivaled my Google traffic.

Interesting... Were your links External Links, or References? Could you give an example of an article?

Don't pay any thing for site listed in Wiki. Who really cares if the site is listed in Wiki or not. Not all wiki listed sites will bring you traffic. I fthe site operator is determing their ad price based on wiki listing, just run

if you have the traffic for the site you already know the effect wiki has
if you want to change the content then it comes down to what is it worth to you
keep in mind that link might be removed.

One Billion Dollars, and 11 cents.

You will definitely get outbid if you try to get a link with that measly price.

I agreed with you. Tough wiki is using nofollow, you will still get significant traffic and of course increase your site's authority.

But to answer your question, you should not pay anything to get listed. When you're listed on a popular article many people can and will edit it.
So there's no use paying IF you got nothing on your site
