national domains- restrictive?

Hello,
If, for example, I buy a .jp domain, would I find it more difficult to rank in USA?
Does this domain have more value in Japan?
I have ebay stores for the USA market. Can I use a .jp domain, or will it make it more difficult for me?

Don't know about ranking, I have heard tld makes no difference but then again im not an SEO expert for ccTLDs vs gTLDs in SERPs.

I suspect if your traffic is all links from your eBay sales you could link to whatever domain you pleased, but if you're trying to build a brand or something off your eBay sales perhaps a .com would be a better choice.
