What do you guys think of bidding directories? Dollar per dollar if I was to add a site on a letter page, is it worth it compared to a regular directory which guarantees you your position?

They are great - targetted traffic and brand promotion.

I own neither but in my opinion, I would rather pay for a guaranteed spot than to bid for number one. I also see many of the bidding directories popping up too fast which makes me wonder if they are a get rich quick fad. I would look for a long time directory that is been owned by the original owner and spend my money there.

I would say category based directory are better than letter based. Letter based are bit spammy, wherein category based are true directories.. this is my personal opinion..

How do bidding directories provide targetted traffic? Sorry but I disagree with that statement.

oh dear.
who visits your directory?
1) A directory owner looking for backlinks. Therefore when they see directories ranked 1 on your main page they will be interested.
2) A kid looking for games to play. He goes to the games category and visits the games listed sites. Therefore more targetted traffic.
Is that good enough or are you still confused.

Same as a normal directory? a normal directory and bidding directory would be the same because they both have categories?

Yes, but bidding directories allow you to BID FOR POSITION so if a submitter wants more traffic they can bid higher. you cant do that on a normal directory when you are buried pages deep.

So what your trying to say is that they are better because you can buy your way to the top, not that the traffic is more targetted.

I think bidding directories when marketed right would be better. Although, I should say I am actually scared of bidding directories. Some might be a member of the QBC..
Hehehe. I guess experience will tell you who are not. ;)

As a bidding directory owner yourself i thought you would have better understanding.

I do have a better understanding, just because you can bid yourself higher to the top doesn't mean that the visitors will be more targetted just means it will get viewed more times, your mixing two things up.

You can still have more categories and be niche.

I'm interested in Bidding Directories. How can a newbie be successful though with them?! Seems like quite a closed niche now!

Depends how much time and money you can invest...
