Can you help me in my College Project, about Search Engine Know-how

I am 2nd year Computer Engg student. I wan to do a project (PPP slide show) on how search engine works. So i want the following information
1. Spiders (web crawlers)
2. How indexing is done
3. Storage of data
4. Data Retrieval
5. Why google is preferred

You can elaborate any point or just tell me the article page or website where i can get all the information

Note: I thought Google would be the better place to start this thread. If it is misplaced then tell me So that i can move this thread.
