why hasn't anyone written a step by step guide for adding an rss feed to an html page? including what needs to be created, uploaded, downloaded, changed, and inserted where, why, when and how.

I dont think this is a problem though. Even though your website must be licenced under the gpl if you release it, it is only IF you decide to release it. Simply having a website online is a special case of 'private use', and by the gpl you are not required to release your code in this case. (this is actually one of the main reasons they want to write a updated version of the gpl (gpl 2), since having a website online is hardly 'private', but nontheless as it stands currently with the gpl, you can use gpld code and make changes for your website, and you dont have to release it)

Two factors here, selling it is 'releasing' or distributing it. So it can greatly reduce the value of selling something that is otherwise orginal code. In this case I am talking about selling of the site as a whole as well.

The second is, have you seen the proposed revisions for the next gpl and why? I see you have but think about this just a bit more. They are planning to make it more broad and cover web services, and many will get sucked along as they update the software and all the suddent now have to release their code/site.



My point is simply that one shoudl not call GPLed code 'free' as it has potential costs in other ways then money, and one should not advice to use a GPLed solution just saying it is 'free' and not adivising the drawbacks.
