I heard lot of people saying its their first choice over Yahoo on search marketing etc. Whats your opinion?

Google sends more traffic to your site for same keywords as yahoo. I guess that would be the main reason.

Humm, maybe `cause "google" is faster to type on your keyboard?

I really think it depends what offer you are promoting, the niche, your keywords, etc.

I prefer google over yahoo, but I have never used yahoo so I am biased. I will have to try it out.

It is because Google has out surpassed Yahoo in most areas of search engines. Among webmasters Google is king of the search engines and that is why you see everyone worried about their results in Google and other stuff like PR. Yahoo is ok but is not as wide used as Google.

Definitely more traffic and most of people have google search engine as homepage. The google firefox search engine has been on my homepage for over 2-3 years now. Friendly user interface, fast and so easy to use.

Google isn't so desperate to earn money, prefers quality.

You know, I have heard the phrase "just google it" for web searches among many people, tv shows, talk radio, etc. Its infringing on copyright just the same as when "Xerox it" meant to make document copies. Well maybe not copyright or trademark infringements, but you get it.

Google is a verb in the dictionary

Google developed an algorithm that was better than the rest of the market. At the time, Yahoo was still a search portal, which basically meant it was a directory that had a lot of spammy links from big corporate sites that could afford to pay Yahoo a few hundred bucks a year for a listing. Google's search solution was much better, and Yahoo has been playing catch up ever since.

google loads very quickly, but yahoo you have to load all ads.... and other useless content.

Intersting. I was going to say because google is better and this and that. But you're right - from a webmaster point of view, it's that google provides lots more traffic.

Google is bigger. When trying to acquire traffic it's that simple.

The Google Brand is now a house hold name. They have achieved successful brand awareness in both the commercial and consumer markets. Google's products, services and tools are excellent, and they provide some of them for free.

I prefer Yahoo mail over Gmail and several other yahoo products, but also the same goes for some google products, I prefer google maps over yahoo.

As far as the actual search engine goes I use both othem regularly and do not tend to favor one or the other and SEO my sites to get ranked in both, although I find it easier to land in yahoo :)

search engine result accuracy is the main factor

MultiMedia
Aug 13th 2007, 2:15 pm
I believe the way things have evolved Google is more known for quality search results and Yahoo is more known for a content site. Eg, if you want to watch a movie trailer you go to Yahoo Movies. You want stock reports you go to Yahoo finance. Yahoo is great at being a content provider, that's its niche since Google far surpassed Yahoo for searching.

I did not compare google to yahoo,i use google a lot, just find it is okay,if i use yahoo,i think it also should be okay for me,so both yahoo and google should be enough for me.So the answer for the question is that most people do not know yahoo, they just use google too much.

we can't deny about Yahoo that's a really good search engine. But what the real fact about Google is more exposure for your website, more reliability on search keywords and nice tactics on company advertisements.

I think, Google Know better how to attract visitors.

One thing I like the best in Google search page is the simplicity and Yahoo has a glitter page , may be that could also be one of reason for Google to be more shiny than Yahoo
:)

Have any of you ever tried to transfer a domain from Yahoo? Or asked them to not mark your business domain email as bulk? It's like working with molasses in the winter. I have had several bad experiences with Yahoo, and Google hasn't done me wrong yet.

The pertinent direct comparisons I can personally make between Google and Yahoo (or Yahell as I like to call them) is with advertising, personal email, and sending business email to Yahoo/Google customers. Here's my $0.02 worth of experience:

* advertising on the Yahoo side was *slightly* better because of some of the graphing features they offered

* I think that Yahoo's personal email is a little overly aggressive in its effort to protect the end user from spam. When I used Yahoo mail I was constantly having to dig through my bulk folder and retrieve valid emails. If I only chose to mark the emails as "not bulk" instead of adding the address to my contacts, then it would take up to 5 iterations of marking that sender as valid and prevent it from going into the bulk folder. Yeah, I know - shoulda just added them....

* If you own a small company, send only a few emails to Yahoo customers a month, and try to get your emails from being sent to the bulk folder - forget it with Yahoo. Gmail is MUCH easier in this area.

I spent three months trying to get Yahoo to keep our business emails from going into the bulk folder. I filled out their forms, I added domain keys (both new and old versions), I sent examples of the emails we send, I sent them the original headers from an email in a bulk folder, I stated that we get our email address ONLY from our customers, etc. Whatever they asked of me, they got. They analysed our emails for about three weeks then came back to me and said that since I didn't get *any* complaints and I didn't send *enough* email that the emails must be going into the right folder and they wouldn't whitelist us. So...our emails are being marked as bulk because we don't send enough email and we haven't had any complaints. That makes sense.

With Google I just had to add an spf record which worked almost instantly.

Of course, take my opinions with a grain of salt - your experience may be different with them. I'm just relaying my personal experience between the two.

I think google can send a very high and Targetted traffic as compared to msn or yahoo.

It would be interesting to see what each persons job role is that has commented on this topic. I'm guessing, based on my own personal experience, that more tech people use google than do others. It's been a long time since I've heard a systems administrator or DBA say that they use Yahoo, but then again that could just be the people I hang out with and work with.

I am a unix/linux systems engineer. I used to use altavista way back when, but then my peers at the time started talking about Google which was back in 2001. I've been using Google ever since then but I do use other search engines when I can't find what I'm looking for there. That tends to be very rare tho.

If you are talking about PPC (I'm not sure by how you worded the question) then I'd say most prefer Google over Yahoo because of the following reasons:

#1 more traffic
#2 much better/faster/more intuitive user interface
#3 no waiting for an editor to approve ads (in most cases...)

But I will say that I think too many people overlook Yahoo. It should also be used. Why? The conversions are GREAT in my experience (better than Google) so while you will get less traffic, it's very high quality traffic. Also there tends to be less competition there.

I think Google will always be better search-wise. Although Yahoo! is meant to be the most visited homepage in the world. Their directory is meant to be really popular, they have stock reports (like other people have said) and that is where Yahoo! is good.

And another thing that makes it apparent that Google has the best search technology is that many big corporations use their search technology on their websites (and even on their intranets!).

But no doubt Yahoo! doesn't have an advanced search engine too, it's what your opinion is at the end of the day...Yahoo! is still stiff competition.
