View Full Version : Major Update being propogated across servers today??

Dec 6th 2005, 8:03 am
Hi guys,
All of my sites have jumped up several pages (some 3 pages, some even 8) in google today and I have checked with other people in the state (florida) and they see the same results, but my friends in New York see the old results from a few days ago.
I did not see these ranking results on google until today - anybody else notice anything???
I am very excited but why are the results only being seen by people in Florida???

Guys I just noticed - my ranking for all of my sites dropped back down again to what they were yesterday.
Well it was nice being on the top page for a little :-)
Others in the state are now seeing the old results again.
Anyway let's see...

I've been checking it regularly so something has changed in the last 24 hours alright..
Also @www.articlecodex.com has updated (but not link: yet damnit :D)

Yes, for a couple hours this morning, I was noticing very different results, but a check of McDar's datacenter tool didn't show those results on any of the datacenters listed there.
Anyway, the results have switched back to the other results for me now.

No change in the amount of indexed pages but my page has completely fallen off the Serps for one keyword. Its weird all other keywords are fine. When I check random datacenters my site is still there. But if I check google.com site has vanished....

Hmmm, I just double checked my www.google.com results against the "Test" Data Center and I get BIG differences in the number of pages listed.

The same goes for me. I check google and I just have my main site listed. If I check the test server I have about 71 pages listed. Very weird dude!

actually my sites are indexed in both. Its the SERPS that are different for one of my site's major keywords. I was #19 yesterday and today I am not in the SERPS for that keyword at all at the test DC and google.com. BUT I am at #19 when I check other data centers weird...

My back links have been up and down for the past 3 or 4 days. Sometimes at zero sometimes back up. Same with page rank for one site. It's happening on sites that are just a couple of months old but also one one that is about 2 years old. Very strange. Something is happening but I can't tell what. The serps have been pretty stable.

Hi Guys,
Yes like Nathan, 64.233.179.99 is showing the results I saw live, very briefly this morning. This may add credibility to the theory that maybe they are going to roll these results out soon. I hope anyway as they rank my sites high :-)
I wonder why google would let those results go public for so short of a time and then take them away...

Not seeing anything here. If Jagger has finished, could this not just be a few extra backlinks added to the mix ... or maybe just souped up daily flux?
Interlogic
Dec 6th 2005, 4:34 pm
I'm wondering if maybe it's a sign of a new google that has more of a constant state of flux.. Things don't seem to have been "stable" as much since the Jagger updates and maybe that's the way they want to keep it?

I'm actually seeing a ten-fold more indexed pages and the same number of back links.
Keep in mind that the flucuations you're seeing are probably not so much a current update as they're likely merely a synchronization of data centers pursuant to the BL update that just took place. As DCs shift back and forth during the sync you'll see different results - just my guess.

Guys,
I noticed this time the changes show through until this morning and now they are gone on 64.233.179.104.
I am willing to bet that these are the new results that will roll out to all servers. As far as I know they were only present on 64.233.179.99 previously, and now they are showing up elsewhere.
Also it is more updated in terms of backlinks, even if the cache is slightly old.
Thoughts?
a389951l
Dec 7th 2005, 7:05 am
I tend to agree with you based on the cache dates that I am seeing for my sites. So if I was a betting man, my bets are that it will not proprogate. Google really has many of us spinning out wheels but alas it is so much fun.

My tools will NOT pick up the results some are talking about on the "Test Datacenters".

The results on 64.233.179.99 are definitely newer...have a recently launched domain that was not indexed past the main page that is showing category pages indexed as well -- perhaps this way their way to testing to make sure they fixed whatever the heck was causing that big drop in cached pages...good as far as I'm concerned.
a389951l
Dec 7th 2005, 7:40 am
I am not so sure that it is newer or rather a filter or two is not being applied. I am still betting that these results will not proprogate. I want them too :) but I have my doubts.

Dec 7th 2005, 7:52 am
a389951l,
You may be right. I definitely want it to propogate, but what you mentioned about a filter or two not being applied could very well be correct. Why it would move to a live server though and not a test, is what keeps me hopeful :-)
Also yesterday it rolled for a couple of hours and then left (if I'm not mistaked) and then the second time it reappeared late last night (11:30pm when I saw it) and lasted all the way until this morning, so it was a long stay.
But let's see, it is hard to say at this time...

I noticed that my backlink count has changed on 64.233.179.104, matching 64.233.179.99, (lost one) and a defininte difference in serps on both, compared to 72.14.203.104.
Cygnus
Dec 7th 2005, 8:00 am
I'm not so sure about it being a filter difference on the pages indexed/cached -- I think they possibly "fixed" the filter, or at least applied a bubblegum patch. The serp differences I see on that one datacenter aren't wide enough for me to think that a filter would be turned off.
a389951l
Dec 7th 2005, 8:08 am
No one can really argue who is correct here since we don't know what google is up to - really all speculations based on our experiences.
But in terms of filters, I would suspect that filters could be sector specific so the differences you are seeing could be a filter. A filter probably doesn't need to make a huge shift in serps really.
I am doing some more tests and will report back as I find them.

I think that is safe to say... I am not seeing any significant changes in backlinks or serps, just small ones. And jagger has not yet gone across all d/c's, either...

I don't think anyone can say for sure right now.
Note:
I justed checked the dp experiment site (listed in my sig). This site only has links from the coop. Within the "test" datacenter, it is ranked 22 while in the "normal" datacenters it is ranked around 228. And honestly, the site should not be ranked 22nd - 228 is more like it for this brand new site. But I am still crossing my fingers because if this spreads, I am cracking up the coop for all of my new sites :D!

Its not an update. Some of the data centers are showing data from before the last PR update. I checked mine that went from 0 to 4. Some DCs show 0. Others show 4.
Google's disalignment right now is very disheartening.

I am seeing major SERPs jumps on 64.233.179.99 this morning.
Three search terms have come from nowhere to Google #3, 7, and 11. They are not inconsequential KW phrases, as they generate a combined total of 840 searches per day according to WordTracker.
And it (or something?) is showing as results in my StatCounter numbers, yesterday being a record day for page loads (nearly 800), with a record 203 unique visitors. I know that is small potatoes for many of your large sites, by my wife and I thrilled.
Many other terms are up as well on 64.233.179.99, with a few dropping slightly. I would love to see this spread across the board. Are others out there finding big increases on this DC? Or am I setting myself up for disappointment?
