I was checking out SmartPageRank (http://www.smartpagerank.com), which is a very helpful site. I noticed the valuation of one of my sites seemed really good. Then I inputed google for fun. Yikes! A little out of my budget.

Yeah, I know it's an estimate and probably not very accurate. It's also just for fun really. And I thought SEO.com going for $5,000,000 was a lot!

That is just for domain name not buisness. I do not think the site is correct no one would pay that for a domain name only.

Now that I think about it, you're probably right about being valued in the $Billions. It's a gigantic business, not just a domain.

The estimated value of verbalbattle.com is: $39

This value is represents the approximate value of the website entered. Of course, this value does NOT include the worth of the company behind the website but rather is an estimated value of the website itself. Some of these valuation factors include: PageRank, traffic, backlinks, age of the domain, directory listings, and other items not shown in the summary above.

Definetly only domain name. Still surprised mine is worth $39, I would of guess $3 or $4 lol.

Yahoo is worth around $50 Billion. Google makes more than double what Yahoo makes in a year so I would say $125 Billion is more accurate.

If Google was valued at only $2 Billion, every big company and their mother would be buying since Google generates 5+ times that each year.

Google's current value, according to their "Market Capitalization" is $160 Billion:

http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=goog

It's a fair valuation, if a bit undervalued I think. Their earnings and growth rate justify it.

For comparison, Microsoft's market cap is $273 Billion, GE's is $402 Billion, Yahoo's is $32 Billion.

At the stock's current price, Google is overvalued, IMO. Google actually saw decreased growth over the past quarter compared to a year ago. They still had increasing revenue, but that stock price is predicting much better than increasing revenue. In fact, using standard models for valuation, the current price reflects an apparent belief that Google will grow at the current rate for the next 10+ years. I agree that Google is a great company, with lots of revenue coming in, but they are not going to maintain the current growth rate for 10 years. There are only so many ways you can grow, as Google surely knows (which explains why they are buying so many companies).

This kind of thread makes me think this forum is worthless. There is market capitalization for every traded company so any tool like that is pointless.

Any ways, I checked the value of digitalpoint

The estimated value of digitalpoint.com is: $6,744,836

Wow! A big part must be the value of this forum and its threads. Let's see:

That's a real positive thing to say. Why are you even here then if this forum is worthless?

As for the tool, yes it's just an estimate, and is really just for fun anyway. We can bring up silly things and still have a valuable forum. Relax.

Stick around this forum for a while and you will see lots unsupported, subject answers to objective questions. Ask a question like "are underscores and dashes viewed equally by Google?". You will get 10 "well I think" for every "here's a link to a study on the differences". Valuations is another issue where we can go research and not just have a bunch of kids saying what they feel. Valuations are also a bit of a bother to me because webmasters are selling themselves short when selling for a number of months worth of revenue rather than doing a discounted cash flow analysis or some other valid valuation. On the other hand, it allows me to buy websites at one fifth or less than there true value. :D
