View Full Version : Adsense Trick to increase CTR with less Targeted Traffic

The idea is to have a headline/title at the top of your content and most importantly make it the same color as the adsense links below it. Now, change the color of that headline to a not usually used headline color, perhaps red green or blue. Then put a block(or 2) of adsense below the headline and make the title the exact same color as the adsense ad titles. So it would be like this:

(Red Headline)
(Adsense ad block with red titles)
(Adsense ad block with red titles)
(Rest of your content)

This has given me ctr of upwards of 15% on fairly untargeted traffic A person's mind just thinks that the headline is related to the ads. If you could make the headline the same font as the ads that would be even better.

-hope that helps

Have you ever tried adsense links with solid colors?

in my experience, adding ads block below title with the same colour give me more CTR and also PPC, because the ads showing targeted ads, almost the same keyword with the title..
it will be different if I add ads block in sidewide, the click is low and the price also low

This is an interesting tactic, and I'm going to try it on one of my sites where I have the ads under the title, and the performance isn't so good at the moment.

Thanks, let's see if it works.

i think its more important to use the same color for adsense as for your links.
if your normal links are blue (#0000FF), so use the same color for the adsense title. adsense text and url should be colored like your normal site text (#000000 for example).

if your headlines are black, making the adsense title black will lower the ctr... so matching isn't the ultimate goal.

the object is to make the ad title the most noticeable color you can, and then blend the rest of the ad in to the page... the advertiser designed the title text to make it noticeable and encourage clicks, so making the ad titling color stand out backs that up.

i would not want a situation where the ad titles are competing with the page headline for attention, based on color... it'll affect the ctr negatively, always make the page titles black(on a white background).

For me, putting AdSense below the headline instead of above helped increase CTR 2X. Still nowhere near 15% though, LOL.

There have been some recent posts in this forum from people who received warnings from Google for this "trick". See this one:
http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=420369

The problem is that your title appears to be a title for the ads themselves, not your content. Google restricts the kind of titles you can place above ads. The intent of what you're doing is exactly what Google doesn't want you doing. I would say you should expect to hear from Google sometime in the near future. They typically give you 72 hours to comply. Enjoy it while it lasts.

That sounds like it would get a nice click through although I'm not sure I would want to "Trick" my visitors like that.

No offense, but this is how people get "smart-priced" into lower earnings. If you trick people into clicking and those clicks don't convert for the advertiser, your site is going to command lower and lower earnings per click over time.

Congrats on your success!

It all depends on the quality of your traffic. CTR has nothing to do with smartpricing.

If there's enough spacing between the ads and content, I believe it would be OK. For example if you have a page 800 px wide, the title - then the 336 ad with content beside it... I believe google will be OK with it.

Placing Title > then 2 ad units... is deceiving though.

I agree, only have 2 ad units if you have a wide site. Double ad units might be seen as mfa.

just one day? if you are looking to optimize adsense, you have to leave the ads for at least 1 week, to see results!
if you use blue color in your links, and white background page, you will get higher ctr. Why? because people are likely to see links with blue colors. so if you place ads with colorful background etc.. maybe you could lower your pr. all depends of each niche. young people - color ads... old people- blue ads.

try to use #850000 for the adsense title. it is your linkcolor.
